iv been thinking about stripping the rear seats out of my car, then installinga show cage and then boarding it out, how does this effect the mot?

also how do they fit, i found this one on ebay, but how does it fix to the car?

Saftey devices are your best bet get one thats FIA approved as for fittin strip the rear out fit it in place drill your holes for were the bolts go weld the plates in place in the rear arches and floor and bolt in place or just weld it in place and do away with the bolts.

as for MOT's i've never had a problem only with harnesses as they can be a bit of a grey area with some mot stations

can't see it affecting the mot really. As long as its securely fixed down of course. I don't even think the go inside the car for much!

I had a quote from southwest motorsport a while ago for a cage for a mk3 so you could look them up. Price weren't bad either.

mine wasn't fixed in...and even still isn't! can't see myself drilling the holes for it! Passed MOt fine.

how does it stay in position then? have you still got rear seats?

mine passed mot with the cage and harnesses... the harnesses have pre-tensioners like normal seatbelts so that may have been the reason for them passing with those...

wasnt bothered by the cage in teh slightest, neither were the police when i was stopped earlier today, they were just like oooh thats a nice cage in there...

i know mate, that why its in my car :-/

how much were you quoted? I have a mate who would weld one up for me if I got the materials for it.

where cab I get the tubing? And what is the best thickness/ material?

they do banger racing so their cages are mint.

iirc mate, wasn't more than £300 which i thought was fair considering. Think that may have inc delivery? I'll look in my email and post up when i find it.

Emailed the company again as i didnt save the original mail they sent me but i do know delivery is £30. Let you know as soon as i do.

me and my brother fitted a bolt in omp 6 point cage at the weekend you are supposed to weld the mounts in then bolt the cage to that, but we just welded the mounts in then welded the cage to the mounts. only took a couple of hours even with taking the dash compleatly out and cuttin it.

what did the insurance say about it? who you with?

Previous insurance for me wouldnt insure the car with a cage in,

show cage, they didnt ask whether it was show or not

with adrian flux everything is declared and they asked not a penny more than my other mk1 golf gti that was completely standard bar coilies and a rear strut brace
