Iconic Dubs

Featured Replies

Was just thinking the other day about what got me into Dubbing originally..

I remember reading an issue of Fastcar (don't shoot me), and they had a vote to see which 'modifying style' was the most popular with the readers. They had a few; Euro, Jap, Cali(?), Chav etc... and an example car for each catagory.

Well Euro won, with about 60% of the votes, thanks to this car:

This was what did it for me, just the style of it, helped me to realise that gigantic fibreglass bumpers shaped like cheesegraters and 22" chrome spinners were not that appealing.

So after seeing that car for the first time, i sorted myself bare issues of PVW, and that's what got the ball rolling, i fell in love with the Dubbing scene, and especially the MK3 Polo Coupe, as it was that car that originally converted me.

So i was thinking, has anyone else got a specific car that got them into the scene? or a certain one that really stands out to them as a real all time favorite? Let's see them guys...

Well, I was guna start a topic on how people got into dubs! But you've saved me the trouble :p

There was no specific car that got me in to dubs. I learnt in my mums polo, and since passing it is now mine :D

When I first got into "modifying" I liked all that shit you see whizzing round with lexus lights etc  but after a guy i knew who was into classic VWs directed me to this site about 2 years ago, my opinions on a nicely modded car changed!

The rest is history

I only bought a Volkswagen because I couldn't find a good Mini. They were all rotten or cost fortunes! I finally found a good one but was gonna cost me £3k to insure!!

Aye, i wanted a mini instead. Or a clio!

man that's an old pic, 8-)

wasn't it max power that did the survey??

I wanted to buy a 206, but after seeing a couple and seeing how shit they were in quality, the first polo i saw was so much better, felt like it was built like a tank compared to the 206's i was looking at  anyway once i got the polo i signed up to uk-polos.net and the people on there have showed me the way into the dub culture

My Dad has had a Mk2 Golf 16v Gti for as long as i know he has always loved his VW's He baught me my Mk3 polo and tried to make it look like a Mk2 Golf as the insurance was too much on a Golf. The deal was i spend a whole day polishing and waxing the car i could have it for my birthday .

i was going to buy a fiat uno :S but my dad loves vw so, an i am soooo glad :p

P2 YOB

My next car is gonna be a mk3 golf because of this car

I only really got into dubs since My auntie bought her mk4 polo about 4 yrs ago, she'd had a mk2 breadvan which was ace but falling apart so she got a new car and it was already modded a bit. Then I bought it off her on my 20th birthday last year cos i'd just had my 3rd corsa go bang and didn't want another one. It wasn't until about 10mths later that i investigated an owners club and found you lot, went to salisbury fr my first meet and saw a mk 1 on like 13's with stretched tyres uber low go-kart stylee and fell in love with the sense of understated tyle that goess with euro

I have to say, that mk3 Golf is completely featureless. Just looks like a bland boring bubble with a terrible choice of colour. As well as a silly unthought out place for the filler cap, looks absolutely poooooooooo!!

I was going to say P2 YOB, A mate of mine owned it a couple of years back it looked quite different then (when is that pic from?), at the time I'd never seen anything like it, that car really was a work of art!!

It is true, looks so weird with the doors completely smooth, not liking the look of that

first time i saw P2 YOB at interes TRL i was blown away, stunning car!!!! nothing at inters that year could touch it.....

I got into VWs because I bought a Golf. I was sick of my unreliable french car, and I wanted something solidly reliable. I wasn't disappointed.

My uncle had about 6 old VW Beetles, and when I was 17 my mate had a beautiful MK1 golf driver. It was so good I had to have a golf and have been hooked on VW's since!

I got into dubs after riding in a mates mk2 16v golf. On the back seat was a copy of Golf+ and i think this car was featured. But ever since then i loved the old skool dubs. Would of had one by now but as you all know insurance is stupidly high on golfs when your under 21.

Anyway I'm sure you will all recognise this mk1... I reckon this golf is responsible for ATS classics being done to death!!!

To be perfectly honest I came into the scene as an air-cooled fan. My uncle has a beetle and i bought one as my first car. But a couple of months ago i discovered that i could no longer afford to run it  A mate at a club meet went in a polo one night, and it seemed logical to me. So i sold the bug and ended up with a mk3 coupe! i love it now! :D

my mum bought me a polo!

then i started buying pvw and signed up on here

i got into the dub scene by accident, my corsa got written off and neale and AsHeR_G persuaded me to buy a mk3 GT, its gone from then since :D

My dad used to own Beetles so that's what started it for me.

My brother owns the same car my dad bought back in 1973, but he's left it to rot and won't sell it, tosser!

Bought my first Polo back in 1988 when I passed my test, a 1981 Polo N

Pictured here in 1995 when I owned it for a second time, after rescuing it from the scrapyard.

Won quite a few trophies with that car, now sadly no longer with us :-(

Only sold it to fund buying and modifying this...

Err I got bored of saving up to sort my Jag out, couldn't afford to run my Discovery (how I intended on running the Jag I don't know lol) so decided to buy something cheap with a small engine. That's when I bought the Polo, then I ran that into the ground and sold it, and bought the Golf because I couldn't see me driving around in anything other than VW at this point in time.

been into dubs as long as i can remember.. 13ish?? was more due to the mags around at the time.. streetmachine & customcar. just the nicest modded cars around imo at the time.. beetles karmanns notchbacks etc.

my old boss hada black karmann ghia show car (dam i loved the summer going to work in that)

tried to find a photo of it but couldnt. think it was a 72. black.. hardtop.. rhd.. empi 8s. he bought it of the editior of streetmachine (he went on to start volksworld mag) at the time it was the don.

I can thank my older bro and his mates for getting me into dubs, they are all golf nutters. But my auntie gave me her Mk4 Polo so to be a bit different to my bro and his mates i stuck with Polo's as my main car. I did sidetracked when i bought a mk1 golf and a mk2 rocco but i still stuck with my current car, the GT.
