Iconic Dubs

Featured Replies

Probably for me, the fact that all of my cars have been Polos. I learnt to drive in the car I drive now, but I've driven 2 others before I got this one back on the road.

Also my dad is a bus nut, he's got 3 lol

Steve's saved me the effort of finding a pic of his old car:

OK mine's the wrong colour, but that's the car that inspired my direction with the Polo. Can't remember where I first saw it, but I was like, yeah that looks spot on.

Trouble is, I couldn't afford Azevs, I wasn't rich enough. So I bought my Adikts.

Originally I'd wanted a Golf though...

The reason i had my old Mk3 and the reason it was styled it like that was the Mk2 GOlf 16v Gti standard

mate of mine got a Mk1 golf GLi and restored that a few years back, that got me aware

then my sister brought a polo and i found this website

i was about 16 and started talkin about what cars we want when we pass (ferraris, turbo monsters, everything we cant have lol) and my m8 said vw's are gd and had a oak green 8v mk2 golf gti and ever scince been into vw's, tho only liked golfs then, now i like most vws and reli likeing air cooled things these days. then saw a pic of a G40 on a website and decided i wanted a polo for a first car insted...

8-)8-)8-)

Green Mk4 loon bought randomly at auction - didn't even sit in it or hear the engine just had a daft moment, best thing I ever bought!

Would love a vr6 Corrado, maybe next year :)

The beetles and campers did it for me in a way. After watching the newest Herbie the beetle looked really cool i thought at the end after they had race prepped it and then i started looking at more, got very excited by them and then bought a mini. Gone off beetles now tbh but always liked VW's since then.

After buying the mini and realizing it was a much bigger project than i anticipated i started looking for another 1st car as a daily. Mate from work mentioned he had a MK3 polo he wanted rid of and well yeh, I'm buying that off him next payday :D. At 1st i thought they were ugly'ish cars but after looking at pics on here and noticing more out n about I've started to really like them.

I didn't even notice a mk3 polo before I got mine. Basically needed a car and gf at the time, friends, brother was selling his. For the money the alternatives were ford or vauxall rotters.

Went to have a look, was clean and I liked the rear. Signed up on here and that's that.

I nearly bought a mk2 bready for £25 in white, with chequered stripes down the sides off one of my uncles mates... Didnt realise then just how cool that car could have looked!

Looked at minis, and clios mainly, but nothing really excited me. The nice minis cost too much, the cheap ones are knackered. The clios were okay, but hard to find one in the spec i wanted for good money, and i was always worried about reliability.

Then i remembered ths place, having been on it briefly once or twice before. I saw Rolo's black and white GT's, alex's grey G40 and also Robin's red G, and i know i wanted one of these. I thought id get one to have trouble free motoring, german reliability and all that

Now lok where the thing is! Sat in pieces in the rain, still no MOT and costing me more than it would to have bought a mint mini in the first place!

I think it was my cousin taking me to the cinema to see 'Herbie goe's Bananas' many , many years ago that got me into dubs . Bought a bug as my 1st car when all my mates where driving round in faceless shit like Renaults and fiestas  Still got the same bug plus since then there's been another bug , a mk 1 golf ,woody the polo (still got it ) , a type 25 Devon camper , a mk2 golf , a blue mk2 breadvan and currently a slammed white T4 and a brown breadvan daily :)

I honestly can't see me ever not having a V-Dub :-p

I got into dubs at 15 (mates brother had a purple cal look beetle) , my first of many beetles was a purple cal looker that i built and after many bugs & buses i built this (see pic)

Just got a company car ( E280 CDI Merc ) well it's german  , so the plan is to take the polo off road and turn it into a right project car , and one day maybe get it looking the nuts , thinking bright green GT3 f sq at the min 8-)

Well i like to be a bit different.....before i passed my test back in 05' and i had two close mates that were both driving too....we always seemed to have the same interest in things for example cars but went down different routes....dean had a proper barry boy car of a mk3 fiesta....white...5 door...XR2i kit...wolfrace alloys...tints...dragon graffics and a big old exhaust....peter however got an old school mini and had some minilites fitted and a respray in kawasaki green i think...I however wanted something different...and after seeing a polo on some random site i decided that that was the way i was going to go...and since then never looked back on the dub scene

...I'ts all about going against the grain that your mates go down

Oh and dean now has a smooth as you like Lupo sport decked on some nice alloys.....thank fuck!!!

I'm quite surprised that someone could be inspired by a car I built just for kicks all those years ago :-o

Still, your car has been built with restraint and good taste(just my opinion)

As for being rich and affording the Azev's, I wasn't, I just got lucky that day. They weren't even bought for that car, they were destined for the Mk.1 Derby G40 project(they might actually get to go on it one day!)

Where is K232 ARP now? Currently untaxed and believed to be blown up :-(

I think the Lupo is iconic. Weirdly, not as iconic as a Golf, which is probably the most iconic Volkswagen, apart from VW Campers.

Here is one that made me want a Polo GTI:

I only bought a Volkswagen because I couldn't find a good Mini. They were all rotten or cost fortunes! I finally found a good one but was gonna cost me £3k to insure!!

I had a mini before my polo. to be 100% honest it was a lot more fun than the polo (but then again i got the basic 1.0L, and the mini was a 1275 lol). The mini had to go as it spent more time on axel stands than on it's own wheels. No problems with my polo so far, only some defective HT leads. German efficiency, ja! 8-)

I've owned alot of cars. Somewhat patriotically though,so VWs never really appealled. Then in 2000,a 10yo Scirocco came up for 300 quid. The rear footwells were full of water and the history was lost, but it was otherwise mint. Quick tidy-up and it was easy money, but also,i was very impressed with it. Rock solid,it handled,it was a great reflection on whoever built it. I knew id have more dubs.

I was given my polo was driving a mk2 fiesta at the time it was so slow. i wanted somting a bit quicker and my dad said someone at his work was scrapping a polo gt and if i wanted it he would give it to me. i didnt know what it was but it had 5 gears and went fasted that my fiesta  then joined up on here because i was bored one day :-D

remember watching my dad fix his old beetle when i was about 4, wanted on ever since

I remember my older cousin giving me his old magazines. Edition of PVW IIRC It was a lush Mk2 Golf British racing green with BBS on and a couple of other Mk2's slammed the fook out of running Azev A's.

I'm going have to dig it out the attic at some point!

For wanting a Polo I dont actually know, I think I was drawn to it, as I saw the potential

Firstly my dad owned an old mk2 GTI then a mk3 GTI, i loved the quality and the speed when i was young! my bro then bought a mk3 GTI n lowered it to the floor! looked amazing n had to get a vw! my first car being a mk2 bredvan, 2nd car being a 6n now i own my lovely 6n2 GTI n joined this amazing site  lol!

A guy in my street had one of these when i was at High School in 1980.

The first time i saw it my jaw dropped....it was fooking stunning and

i've been hooked on my VW's every since.

i was on barryboys one day and i saw this :

P2090023.jpg

and i was like that is a ice car and i want a car just like that , so a mini and 106 later i bought myself my current polo a Dragon green 1.6CL !! Plus my dad is into his aircolled and always gives me a bit of advise , he even bought my german plates as he said they would look good

The car that got me into dubs was the Max Power December 1995 cover car.

Jerome Diks 290bhp Mk1 Golf on white powder coated 17'' Azev A's.

Can't find any pics of it though.

My dads been into dubs since i was a kid, i loved them ever since he had a mk1 Golf GTI in the early 90s, then a mk2 Golf GTI 16v, Then a Corrado g60, then a Corrado VR6, Then 2 Corrado VR6 Storm's, so naturally i was into dubs, and got my Polo for my first car last year :D
