They'll physically fit any petrol Mk3, but not really recommended for G40s as they don't have sodium filled exhaust valves.

Any hydraulic headed 1.0 or 1.3 Polo, Mk2 Golf or 1.4 Mk3 Golf.

that head that you're selling looks like a 1L head to me from the size of the inlet valves, and the size of the inlet ports. who said its a 1.3 head is wrong as this is a 1.3 head below

standard_head.jpg

the exhaust valves are the same size but 1.0L engines have 32mm inlet valves and 1.3L engines have 36mm inlet valves

and it wouldnt be right to post in the parts for sale section as I guess its a negative comment saying you're wrong about what you're selling.

unfortunatley looks like you've bought something in good faith and wasn't as described.

I am thinking the same as above, it's almost certainly a 1.0 head and would serve for no purpose on a 1.3 engine.

But trust me, I know how you might feel if you were fobbed off - I found myself in almost the exact same position about 6 months ago and it made me feel like a big tit and just throwing it all out the window.

But nah.

yeah it can happen to anyone, a few years ago I bought a complete GT management system with a head with bent valves as the cam belt had snapped. This was on ebay.

when I got it, it turned out to be an NZ injection system and a 1.0 L head.

although at the time I wasnt after a head just the management system, but we live and learn I guess.

I do think though that on normally aspirated egines, if you had a 1.0L mk3 head and get new valve seat inserts fitted and use 36mm inlet valves, and use suitable porting, that it will outflow a ported 1.3L head with standard sized valves as the port shape is better to begin with.

but so far no-one has tried this out yet

I was just messing with a 1l head down the shed and definitely felt as though the port shape was a bit better to start with - not quite such apparent 'steps' in the metal when casting meets valve machining. But then that just means that 1.3 heads will unlock more trapped power when you do 'em right. Mk2's all have the same size ports anyway.

I am seeing if someone near me would like to have their head ported and polished for free. But it's a bit like a college barber thing - it's the first one which would go onto a car and I'd rather someone stuck their hands up to be guinea pig. It's a tried-and-tested , experience gaining thing.

a bigger port will only make things worse, the shape is more important, if you have access to a flow bench the results may suprise you with the flow on the 1.3 heads

If I was to re-cam my hydro headed 1.3 Golf, as I'd need to use an electric fuel pump anyway it would make sense to use a Mk3 Polo head. So, I wonder whether some smoothing of the ports on a 1.0 head would actually be the way forward?
