Hi, I've just bought my first car,

there's a couple of places with rust e.g. the font arch.

Will the paint blend in easily without being noticable (using genuine VW paint) as it is metallic.

Some techniques would be helpful aswell please.

I did it on my car last month, first time I did it and it's really not that hard. Sand it right back to bare metal, get rid of all the rust. Make sure you sand about an inch around all the rust to make sure it's gone, then put something like Kurust on just incase you missed anything tiny.

My cars solid paint so it wasn't too bad to blend in. It didn't full blend and you can see it if you look closely, but a normal glance and you can't tell. Apparantly metallic paint is much harder to blend in though.

I did a few bits on my alpine white Mk3, absolute piece of piss, sanded back, sorted the rust out, bit of filling, smoothing, dust the primer on, sand it all smooth again, few coats of primer then flat it back into a few inches of paint around the filler, then primer again and top coat. Looked a bit funny to start with, but some cutting compound, a light wet flatting and whole panel polished it was good as new. Probably 2 hours work (not including paint drying) in total to sort out both scabby door bottoms.

Metallic paint though, never again. Tried the same job on my mate's Corsa haha, and lets just say he ended up putting it into a garage to have it sorted out

Well the paint will cost you about £20, and a body shop will give you a top job for £40. is it worth your time? I did my 8v one myself :)

Are you wanting it smoothed aswell? If so then you could do it yourself, and maybe even prime it up for them. Mine was just an 8v one to be fair.

yeah I'm going to smooth mine myself and prime them.

got two quotes and they want £300+ for spraying them in white

where did you get yours done from??
