new progress thread. decemeber overhaul!!

Featured Replies

Well after 30k miles of g40' ness I decided it was time to tidy things up a bit, after the engine was rebuilt last year I've continuely replaced many a thing and as many of you who already know me, I like to do things as OEM as possible with VAG parts almost every time. I'm a strong believer in prevention rather than cure, so although the items shown here were not in dire need of repair I wanted them done.

So the gearbox came out about 2 weeks ago and should return from JP race tomorrow, so in the meantime I've tidied up the following and got stuff in preparation. There's still a charger mount and rear gearbox mount to pick up from the powder coaters and I'm still waiting on a lambda probe and all the bolts that hold the charger dome on and air pipes from vag so when they arrive I'll wack some pics up, but in the meantime here's a couple of bits to get it started......

the charger ready to go to psd for a fresh rebuild again.

Painted drive shafts, the cling film is just to stop the grease going everywhere.

Fresh oil and thrust bearing.

it took us 20 mins to get the charger out too is that a record??? lol

*shudders at the sight of driveshafts!*

This car looks so great in the flesh!

Keep up the excellent work keeping a fine G on the road :D

mmmmm G40 progress, this is what we like to see. I bet the gear box will be sweet as a nut when you get it back on there.

If you ever sell this car I can only hope I have some spare moola burning a hole in my pocket. OEM ftw.

Hope those parts from VAG weren't too much...they are all on my list as well :crybaby:

Sexy. Very nice mate :D

mmm they aren't cheap i'm afraid Tav. the mount alone was 30 quid

the thrust bearing was about 22.

gear box oil is cheap at around 4 quid a bottle and you need 4.

lambda probe is 104 quid.

and around 15 quid on random nuts and bolts just to tidy it up a bit.

the gearbox rebuild should end up being around 300 quid including delievry back home.

yea that G is defiantly chav :retard:

looks nice tho mate, very tidy

Great to see, Dan. Love hearing, reading and seeing progress on that little beauty!

Keep on truckin' 8-)

well its gone from a 'off the road for 2 weeks' for a gearbox rebuild to a full blown fucking rebuild, fuck i might as well take the engine out again and rebuild that!! only joking.... next year lol.

it SHOULD be back on the road late next week depending on how quick steve does the charger and sends it back to me. the charger will be with him by wednesday and he seemed optimistic to get cracking so all should be good.

Good stuff, glad to see it getting better and better.

I'm a few months off a major spend on mine too. Box, LSD, uprated driveshaft. :)

Look forward to seeing it running again, you coming to the meet on Sunday?

great progress as ever dan.

As for the idiot who called you a chav.. haha. Last time i checked i didnt see wolfrace, ripspeed etc on your car? You been delving away from vag recently haha

Sorry I took so long with that mount mate! Would have been much easier if I had the car.

Looking good as always though

Nice one Dan. 20 mintues on the charger eh Dan. Did you move the engine about or just take the mounting plate off?

moved the engine back mate i think half the reason it was so quick was cos it wasnt that long since it was last off so all bolts were no bother so it was a doddle with two of us working on it.

its great to see that you use vag parts although i hate to think how much its all costing.

its great that your building it all the time so it will last for a long long time

I buy almost everything from vag because it fits and works properly. There are a few things I've bought from gsf like the clutch but its the same make part anyway so it makes no difference really, just get whats cheapest.

I get quite a bit of discount as well from vag so somtimes you pay about the same as you would for the cheap shit.

This is a realy neat and tidy G .

I like it alot

thanks man.

Damn that's tidy. :nod::thumbsup:

Awesome to see this car is kept to the highest of standards!

Can I ask why you get discount from vw? Is it because you spend so much?? lol
