Central locking kit, what would you recommend?

Featured Replies

Am looking to fit a central locking kit

saw someone mention this kit on here http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criter...rce=15&SD=Y

but not sure on the quality, seems very cheap

just wondering what other people are using and whether they'd recommend it

oh yeah - I am not interested in remote locking, the car's a 5 door and the ability to hook it up to an alarm would be cool as I may be getting one later on

TIA

Okay first off dont buy that kit from maplins.

For abit more you can have remote central locking.

I have had this kit now for about 6 months

Its spot on! Quick Delivery, great quality, cheap, easy to do, great range on the remotes.

& I know these have random codes as my mate has one.

I've looked at the maplin one instore.. does look cheaply made etc..

I got mine from maplins and it works just fine Iv had no problems with it.

Well i can't fault mine.

HOW EASY ARE THESE TO FIT?

depends how good you are at fabricating. Took me about 5 hours to get it all setup, hide the wiring and i was doing it in between rain.

what do you mean as in fabricating, e.g making brackets/welding/soldering or just screwing the actuators on ?

thanks,Lewis

You just need to think about the best way to route the wires through to the inside of your car.

So drilling a few holes.

I made some spacer brackets so the motors dont sit flush against the door. But thats optional really

Bending the guides to fit into the locking thing so that it doesnt just fall out over time.

No welding involved. Or soldering

Hi!

Is this Hawk central locking kit all I need in order to convert my car to remote central locking. Currently the car is opened by insertin the key!!

Hi,

I purchased the Hawk Central Locking Kit and so far I am quite pleased with its performance. I have just one question though, how do I go about have the lights on the car flash when the car has been locked and unlocked??

Thanks

Shaun

Guide coming soon

Thanks mate, I'm also lookin to add remote locking to my 6n polo. (its already got central locking, I just want remote locking =p) Give us a shout as to when the guide's done, so I can have a look as to whether I can actually attempt it. Cheers,

Laith.

P.S - A minor quibble, but using that hawk remote kit, is it possible to have the car sidelights (indicators etc..) flash when locking / unlocking via the remote, like other factory-equipped remote unlocking cars do. This is a major point for me, as I'm rather daft & forgetful, and I'm pretty sure I'll forget if I've locked the car or not ;)

Sorry when i meant a guide, i meant one just for getting the indictors to flash.

Theres already a guide on here how to fit to the car, its quite easy.

However my Hawk remote central locking was the older model, the new ones have the indicator flash feature! so you jut connect the right wires to your indicators.

But if its an older kit like mine i used to relays which is what i will do the guide on.

Any chance you can point us to the guide on the forums? I've done a search for remote unlocking, nothing relevant to the hawk system came up =/

P.S - Minus people saying I'VE DONE IT.. lol xD

I saw that earlier, the problem with it.. is that it doesnt include any pictures. (Specifically, the pictures there dont work)

yeah if i could find a decent guide with pics that would be good. i dont have even central locking! so need to start from scratch.

the new hawk ones do have indicator flash n everythig like that, i got one a few weeks back and personally i think mines pretty good

can anyone link me with what id need to turn my central locking to remote central locking
