Ok looking to spend about 5-6k on some new wheels.

Had my heart set on a Lupo Gti for over a year now, but recently been swaying toward a Polo Gti as they seem to be about a grand or so cheaper and alot easier to come by. Also a/c as standard.

I like the look of Tomo87's Polo. Think it's the BBS RS's that set it off though, which sadly he's not selling with it

Played with the idea of a Clio 172/182 for about 10 minutes...2.0 16v, probaly handles well, but french, and clios are sooo common.

Also the idea of a '99 '00 Honda Civic Vtech.

Looked at things like RX7's, Subaru's etc but I dno, i'd be wary cos I don't know enough about them and again, age.

Quite like mkIV golf gti 1.8T aswell but they all seem to be such high mileage! Also cost a bit more, again, common.

I'm also a big fan of old skool dubs but just don't like the idea of age and mileage etc, especially if they cost a couple of grand.

So I feel Polo/Lupo Gti is the most sensible option. Anyone have any experience of owning/driving both, or opinions on any of the other cars?

Well i'd take an S3 if they were cheaper Not really a fan of the old A3's looks though. Maybe I just haven't seen a nice example?

Dno what it is about Seat's styling I don't like. Well I don't like their grills/lights I know that much.

For £5-6k you'd have to be silly to spend your money on anything other a JDM Integra Type-R DC2 in my eyes...acclaimed as the best front wheel drive car ever...

The 96-spec cars are coming in below your budget from Japan with low miles and in great condition. My mate was quoted half what he was for his G40 on one of these cars.

Very capable car which is able to drive with Imprez's etc. on twisty roads. It's all about brilliant chassis design rather than brute power. It's like a fully modified road car straight out of the box.

Oh yes I forgot about the Integra type R! I was looking at those for quite a long time.

Integra Type R Was looking at this shape one mainly.

What's the deal on an import anyway, even if you're not the first UK owner? people seem to say UK spec ones are better to buy etc. How about mileage, i'm always put off by miles higher than 70k/80k, should I be?

As for BMW, I showed a pic of one to a girl n she was WOW i'd like to be in that car, but to me it looked chav. I like the new mercs, AMG etc. Old ones can be dogs though can't they?

Must say that A4 is quite nice, mileage quite high though. I've seen some nice mk4's I would buy, but I think only with the aniversary kits or r32 kits, otherwise I don't know, bit boring and common.

Would like to find out more about the Integra type R now. Dub or Rice, quite a step.

Loads of options with that budget mate. How about a mint Nissan 200sx s14a. Had one myself a little while ago, with a bit of suspension tweakage and nice rims they look awesome

For your budget this would get my vote! I just can't stand the pram handle spoiler on the back

Really tempted by the Integra now, just did an insurance quote and its about £1400 :S Polo Gti is only £500 lol Both with £300 excess I put on.

Also what's the DC2 got over a standard type R? or are they all DC2? Probaly on the wrong forum asking this now lol.

Should I be worried at all about age vs a Polo Gti? e.g '96 vs '00

From what i've read on the forum alot of Polo Gti's have gearbox trouble etc. I've had my mk3 CL with 120k on the clock for over 3 years and never had anything go apart from wear and tear (tires, wiper blades, backbox, aux belt, clutch cable). I guess age and miles aint everything.

DC2 is the model number. The newer shape is DC5.

The JDM cars look much better than the UK ones, I hate the UK round head lamps. You have to run JDM cars on 98RON petrol...i.e. v-power etc...but in return you get better performance.

60-70k is nothing for a Honda as long as it is well looked after. £5200 for a UK car is steep though I think...at least from the other examples I have seen?

This car is in a totally different league from a Polo GTi. It's up there in super car territory for driving pleasure apprently. EVO rated it best front wheel drive car ever. It's been voted Best Motoring Japan's car of the year as well...tested against all the big Japanese performance models. Proper performance car...not many manufacturers offer this style of car...a lot of thought as gone into it.

I think the UK models are priced higher, so i've noticed anyway. e.g for the same price the JDM has alot less miles.

I think I also perfer the JDM lights, wasn't sure at first. I wouldn't mind either tbh.

What would happen if you ran a JDM on 95RON or 90RON even?

I definately realise what a great car this is, pretty excited about it! I read somewhere they actually lost money on every sale or something.

I think the car wouldn't run properly on 95 ron...if at all? Miss-firing...lumpy performance...local guy has a JDM Impreza and said it just went "eh...no!" when he put in regular 95 RON Asda fuel.

oh right lol doesn't sound wise then. Just read somewhere it made a JDM run like a bag of spanners. Japan they have 100RON or something. Well the higher the octane the more efficient it's meant to be anyway + better performance. For a couple of pence a litre it's no big deal.

That's fairplay, they're nice little cars. I have seen a fair few Lupo Gti's go for about the 5.5k mark which isn't too much more than an equivelent Polo.

My mate has always told me to get something more grown up. I'll now be getting "yeah but it's not a dub" lol.

Lupo GTi is a far superior choice to a Polo I think. If you get the 6 speed gear box you're onto a winner.

The one thing that puts me off the Mk5 GTi is those flippin' gear boxes.

Only thing a Lupo GTI has going over the Polo is the gearbox and the fact it is a fraction quicker to 60, but then it is 150kg lighter. Integra seems a good choice, if you can afford the insurance

You could get a mint VR6 Rado for 5-6 k , and if you ever want to sell it you wont blow you brains out cos they hold their money. or you could get a S1 rs turbo scort if you want a change from dubs ?? , they might be old now but with classic insurance and great looks you cant get a quicker cooler motor .
