removing window winder

Hi, New to forum, need to remove door panel to fit new door mirrow on my 2000 model polo, cannot work out how to get the window winder off? been told to slide the spacer sideways then pull handle off, tried this and no joy wont budge, could someone please explain in detail just how to get the dam thing off please? many thanks Dave
