I have two rusty holes underneath the black plastic GT trim on the sill. I wanted to know if the sills were structural and as such meant an MOT failure, as i have been told they're not, but i wasnt sure what to think.

its only a fail if the mot guy spots it! i bought a square of here last year got it mot'd, went through no probs, then a week later i lifted the carpet to find a big chunk of rust which had also spread to the sill! the underseal was so think it wasnt spotted! so anyway i asked the mot guy why he didnt spot it and he said that they arent aloud to prod stuff unless the area looks dodgy! if i were you i would just cut the rot out and weld a bit of plate over, its not difficult or expensive to do

anywhere within 12 inches of a seat belt or suspension mount is also a fail

they can't actually remove trim to look for holes so if the plastic cover is over it they won't fail it. unfortunately mine had lost a rivit at the end near the fuel tank so they could see that underneath there was a hole, didn't cost much to get welded up tho. unfortunately one of the side effects of a having the sill trims is that water tends to sit in there and rot so everyone should really take them off and clean and waxoil underneath at some point.
