MK3 POLO TAXI...

Featured Replies

Thought I'd start this thread up as I've started getting on with the polo now. Those of you who read my first post will already know that I took this 1.0l fox coupe as part ex on my beloved MK1 caddy, the idea was to do a little bit to it and keep it as a daily whilst I'm finishing off my mk1 jetta 'sleeper' project. My original plan was to have it resprayed by a 'mate' who is a a pro, however he seems to be taking his time getting organised so I decided to rattle can it in the mean time, my first instinct was matt black, but then whilst out on my rounds spotted this colour and instantly fell in love with it, its called 'butterscotch', needless to say the Taxi theme snowballed from this point onwards (how do our crazy dub infested minds work? :doubt: )

How it started (the worst colour i have ever seen)...

I had these (mk4?) polo alloys kicking about, so I sprayed them matt black to set the orange off, here you can see I have made a start on the paint, removing the 'fox' decals was a right nice person of a job and now my hands are burnt!

I've been a bit delayed now for finishing it today what with one thing and another so'll i prob finish it at the weekend, I've spotted some taxi lights on ebay which i think i'll have a bid on:

And i want a 'D' german national identity sticker for the back end & some pressed plates. I'm gonna put my roofrack on it and one of my old suitcases (well it is a taxi) and other then the obligatory slam & exhaust etc that'll be about it for now, unless something interior wise turns up, I am toying with the idea of 32mm spacers to push the wheels out a bit. I'm really starting to enjoy this car, maybe its because I'm not so bothered about it being perfect, its just a bit of fun! Maybe when the jetta is finished and road legal i might get the polo sprayed up properly and have a look at some engine options, but for now its just my run of the mill daily taxi...

erm the bits which 'appear' to have been oversprayed as you say are in fact masked up with tape & newspaper (other then the bumper where it fell off as i was spraying but i have some thinners for that). As for the colour I'm the first to admit its a bit marmite, but like i said, I'm just having fun lol

ahh now I've seen the pics I'm not sure mate.. the bumpers you could probably primer u and get them half cc'd but I'm not to keen on the colour

  • Author

lol...never mind cant win em all! (not wanting the bumpers colour coded at the moment).

tbh i think it looks stupid and the original colour's a quite cool one, should have left it alone imo, but afterall it is your car!

i dont think i'll bother posting up anymore pics of my cars lol I hope that somewhere out there someone 'gets' this car and that is that its not supposed to look cool in a coventional way, its purely a laugh and it put a smile on my face, takes me back to the good ol days!

just because 3 people dont like your car doesent mean to say everyone will... I'm sure if the orange was a differant shade and the bumper newspaper was stuck back on before you sprayed that bit I'm sure it wouldnt of been that bad but the std didnt look to bad imo

Keep going... more pics... I'm not too sure I like the colour (maybe it is the green/orange mix) but its good to see someone having a bit of fun. After all you can always do it matt black if it doesn't look great when finished!!!

How about some Mat Black stencilling when finished... :)

3 out of 4 lol! The newspaper blew off as i was sprayin. Anyway I'll soldier on, just so people know its a matt orange and these pics were taken mid spraying, it does look alot 'cleaner' now its dry.

Cheers mate...thats a cool idea!

cant believe you were going to ratblack that in the first place, i think the original colour was gorgeous and I'm sure you dont see that many in a) that colour b) as good a finish as it looks in the picture

but alas its your car and you can do what you want...

I'm interested to see the end results and ill reserve my judgement till then...

but I'm all for buying cars for peanuts and having a good laugh with them... just a shame you couldnt have done it to a tornado pink mk3

the black stencilling idea sounds good tho

and 32mm spacers :-o i hope you like changing wheel bearings!!!

Unfortunately it was pretty rough down one side mate, looks like its been scraped along a wall the full length of the car.

and 32mm spacers :-o i hope you like changing wheel bearings!!!

I hear that lol!...maybe i should get some shims and go for adverse camber and spend my life replacing tyres instead...hmm the possibilities are endless...

...oh and dont worry everyone, i have a rather swanky mk1 jetta project with mk2 8v power which is called project 'sleeper' so as you'll gather nothing drastic happening to the body work/colour on that one...I'm not completely insane!

AY u get on with your work! no time for talking on here

what plans do you have for it? as i think some squares down the side like the old taxiz would look ok if youw ant to go for a rough relaxi taxi look? (obviously not as good as beating the quality of the relaxi would take some beating ;) )

I'm rocking mad camber at the front, going to do the rears with some pikey washers when i do my rear disc conversion... yep i reckon you should go balls out and rock out some 50 mm spaceys and have some of those swanky sideways wheels...

id take a leaf out of the film taxis book and when you press a button wings come out the side and for some reason your car can fly ;)

tbh for a taxi, get a lowering kit, cut some springs out so its proper scraping its arse, spark stylez and thats about it, failing that just get some like bike feelers made out of some kind of metal and hang them from the bakc of the car so it just kicks up sparks anyway :D

seen the jetta on e38 i reckon, got more pics?

and yes ben I'm going now hahahahaha

Have only just got this camera so not many pics yet, but i'll take some next time I'm down at the unit.

Plans for the taxi? hmmm as already stated, just low n slow really with some luggage on the roof, i really like the kerb feelers idea and the stencils...best of all they will cost peanuts which is what this one's all about!

did you flat the old paint back before you sprayed it? if not its just gonna flake off, how come you haven't removed the plastic arch trim either? its only clipped on? i liked the original colour, but it will be interesting to see what the finished product looks like. keep going with the pics, even if it goes wrong or people dont like the car, its still something to talk about!

  • Author

yeah, the area thats been painted has been flatted back & the arch spat has been primered and sprayed as i wanted it the same colour! more pics to follow...ps looking for a dodgy brown/beige etc interior if anyone has anything that may be of interest...

Oi that was a brilliant colour!! :crybaby:

also, its not really of any interest to me if people like it or not, its for me. To be honest I've gone out there this morning and i really like the colour (it does look better in the flesh). I'm having fun and I'm gonna enjoy riding it and getting all sorts of looks! IMO dubbing is about individuality & i have never been one to follow the crowd and i think when this car is finished it'll put two fingers up to all the non believers! which IMO is a job well done lol!

P.S my neighbours want to kill me lol!

I went round to me mams this morning and nicked this funky throw for the back seat and chucked this tweed trilby on the parcel shelf 'old boy stylz'. You can also see in this pic, that despite it being a rattle can job, the finish is actually quite good!
