Well if you actually rebuilt a 1.6 engine with low compression pistons, sodium filled valves, camshaft with correct duration etc, then I'm sure due to the increased cubic capacity, a 1600 would be possibly more powerful. This doesn't necessarily mean better though..

and then would your gearbox die!?!

he means the gearbox might not be strong enough to handle the power, and may break into pieces

I knew nothing when I came on here. I couldn't even point out different parts of my engine

Compared to some of the people on here I still know nowt, but I do most of the jobs on my car myself, to save money and I'm learning more every day..

I feel like an old git on here now.....got my first mk2 nearly 8 years ago! Mk2 polo, 3xSeat Ibiza Tdi's 130, Passat 1.8T and now back to basics with the Mk3 GT for my lady to learn to drive in.

I'm not allowed a G40, she says i'll kill ma self before our wedding

G40's = Lots of torque and after a few more revs/mods lots of power. Take a car that weigh's 720 with a light mass of a 1.3 and Supercharge it, mod that and 180bhp.......and yea VW dont make the best gearboxes. G40's modded = reliabilty/holes in wallets! IMO

Liking the comment about the haynes at birth, when i joined i knew abit, not alot mind but you guys were so much help....now my car drives me hundreds of miles a week for work knowing how the thing works is great as atm its needing alot of TLC.

Step one my friend, get a haynes manual and read it cover to cover, once done.....start over trust me it will all make sense.

Step two and i dunno how old you are when i was 16/17 it was all mk2 golf gti's, it sucks but build the NCB's then get a big powerful diesel........i'll get my coat.....i miss my FR! - Lightly modded G power with soot...

Totally off the origional topic but speaking in reference to others comments on this thread .

I dont really have a clue when it comes to engines i know the basics but wouldnt be confident to do anything other than a straight engine swap .

I can rip a interior out and put it back in a hour and remove panels , bumpers , Suspension ect ..

When it comes to motors it gets difficult . I understand the initial concept of wheat each part of the engine does and various things i could do to tune a engine .

Its nice that i have made alot of friends through this site who have the knowledge i dont so i will be able to build a car consisting of my own hard work sorting the bodywork and interior . ie ahstetics and the brain power and teadiousness fiddling of my mates helping to build a engine .

My forst car i baught and slowly added stuff too .

Now i have the chance to buy a car and build it from scratch everything apart then everything back togetjher properly so i know its all good .. and most of all uber tidy :-D
