I'm pickin my new alloys up tomorrow and i need some tyres. i really like the streched tyre look but I'm not sure how streched 175/50 would be as recomended in the tyre guide pinned. has anyone had these fitted. anyone have pictures to show me? any other suggestions on sizes? and make? all for that really cool streched look!

165/50 ftw

Or, if handling doesn't matter to you, 155/55

165/50 ftw

do you have any pics to see what the strech would look like tho?

You dont need a stretch on a 6'' rim, would look pretty silly.

Heres an example..

Whoevers polo is above just got cussed! I think it looks ok. If i was buying tyres i would opt for 195/45/14's still low profile but it isnt stretched plus it might save you kerbing your rims as badly

oh i see wht you mean! this is why i wanted to see pics, well i guess I'm not doing the strech look then. another set of alloys for summer then i think!

Is that adskivs?

for a start that polo above is on 15s, not 14s and they sure as hell are not 6j wide either! 165/55 look perfect on a 6j wide wheel

not a great pic but this is a 6j wide 14" rim with 165/55 fitted

It didnt recieve very good reviews in the photo gallery hehe

You only need stretch if a normal tyres tread would pertrude the arch. With a 6n you'd only need stretch if the rim is wider than

8''..unless you had a low offset.

:-)

dont streck on a 6j rim would ony strech on a 7 or more

you'll struggle to find a low profile tyre narrow enough to give stretch on a 6j anyway, cos 165 will not look stretched

Sorry to hijack, but quick question....

I got 14x6 wheels on my G40. got 185/50s on at the mo but they rub. I'm running HnR 60/40 cup kit. Only thing is, I'm worried with a 165/50 I may struggle for traction. Its bad enough now! Apparently running around 150bhp so traction is a slight issue...

traction wasnt and isnt a prob on my g40, currently on 165/50 r15s, -40 up front and very low on the back (bout midway on a phill j kit, but looks to be around 70-80mm!think the ice install may be the cause!!) before i have 7j wide bbs alloys shod with 165/55s and they were also fine

Gonna hi-jack here too, no need to start a new thread!

Would 14x7 alloys make the steering worse/heavier on a mk3 GT?

in a word maybe! i run manta ats classics on my gt 6j wide with 165/65 r13s, its much lighter on the steering than my g which has 6j wide with 165/50 r15s. i would expect it to be heavier than std, but i would also say that tyre choice must play almost as big a part as the actual rim being used

Ah right interesting. Some wheels I'm thinking of buying have 195/45/14 Proxes.

Di it dublass. RIch is running 195/45/14s and his handles brilliantly.

Stretching on a 6j rim is daft - you wil have bugger all tyre contact with the road!

I wish people would stop stretching for the sake of stretching. Stretched tyres are to fit wide wheels under small arches. Not for gaining scene points.

195/45 ftw.

Certanly is mine, and that is a 165/50 Streched over a 7.5j Rim, So why you have posted that pic in here i will never Know!

That excersize was to see if i could get away with running those tyres instead of having to Pull my arches!

IIRC Steve_Davieson put 165/50's on a 6J, Looked on, Not much Strech but looked ok, Ill try and find a pic!

i know what youre saying, but maybe he just likes the look of stretched tyres and wants that look on his own car... believe it or not, not everyone thinks about 'the scene' :wasted: every time they do something to their car. sorry for dropping that bombshell!

next person to mention 'scene points' will be wearing a colour coded bbs rs001 split rim (doesnt get any more 'scene' than that) as a permanent neck brace.

I'm not into any scene, i like what i like. my mate with a mk1 golf and has them fitted, they really suit it. i thought it might be possible, but wasnt sure what it would look like, so i asked for pics. you all were quite helpful and i now have a new set of alloys with 195/50 tyres on them. they look great to me!

It was more to show how some tyres can look not so good 8-)

Stretch on narrow rims looks worse than stretch on a wide rim...it's just a pointless attempt at looking cool. You don't need to stretch a tyre onto a thin rim...it's THIN!

Get some 185/50's or something sensible.

if you look just above where you wrote this you'll see tht i did go for a wider tyre. i just wanted to see what it might look like. i know its not everyones taste to have streched tyres, but some of us do genuinly like that look. but i agree it doesnt look all that hot on a narrower wheel. look at my pic! I've had the car 8weeks n just started gettin stuck in, iv got collies n a badgeless grill, removed the bump strips n mud flaps n today i got my new alloys with my WIDE tyres on them.i know its not much but its a start. any suggestions what i should get next? bodywork only.
