Got pulled last nite speeding on R plates, 3 points and 60quid fine, what are the insurance implications on this generally?does it put the premium up much?how long does it take til the point go on you are licence cuz I've 2 renew my insurance policy on thursday and itd b best without sayin bout the points, help please

If you don't tell them, you don't have any valid insurance. If you're involved in an accident without insurance, you are what is technically known as f**ked. Likewise if you are caught without valid insurance, it's more points and a bigger fine. Honesty is the only policy.

Most insurers tend to look at one minor speeding conviction as an honest mistake. I have 3 points for speeding (85 on a motorway), it increased my premiums by about £50. A friend of mine had the same problem you did and was caught just before renewing the other week (42 in a 30 I think). When he notified his new insurers, having already had a quote off them, the premium increased by £46.

If you've already been given the fixed penalty notice, the points are on your license (unless you refused to accept it and opted to go to court).

Be a man mate, you did wrong, got caught, all that's left to resolve is your own feelings on it, and a bit of learning from your mistakes.

i got pulled about a year and a half ago... got 3 points for speedin and they didnt really affect my insurance when i came to re-new

thinnk my premium changed by about £30

but at the end of the day, as Yeti says.. its best to declare them cos they dont affect the premium by much and that way you are covered safely.

Yea just thought that if i renew it before the points go on i can pay my premium and then it wont affect me til next year, they dont have my counterpart yet, do they need it to put the points on aye?

If you've been served and accepted a fixed penalty, then you have already been convictted.

If you opted not to accept that and to go to court, then you have not yet been convictted. Though this isn't a cheap or easy route to be going down.

Now they want £350!! and for me to renew my policy TPFT £2879!!!

Professionally, it does seem a bit high. Personally, I'd say depends on vehicle, driver, place and time of day. I won't pretend I haven't done worse on long, straight, virtually desertted, well lit, sections of motorway in the dead of night in a car than can.

I had just slowed down from 130 though.

I was in my ford mondeo 1.8 16v on the A96 inverness to Aberdeen road, at about half ten at night, road was dead apart from the police car sitting with the speed gun :( It was in summer so it was still bright and the road was bone dry. Never braked so hard in my life, both my back wheels locked up had to get two knew tyres :@

Sorry Yeti I usually make the effort to write properly on forums. Just forgot last night. Was chatting on msn last night, so that's probably got alot to do with my text talk.

I have edited my post the best i can. But probably still a mistake or two as i was never really that good at English.
