getting hold of a G40 lump

Featured Replies

??? Can you buy new G40 lumps , or best way / place to get hold of a good used one ?.

I have a GT lump and bits for the swap in my mk3 breadvan 8-) but cos the cars only going to be a toy and not used day to day i dont think it's going to be that quick / keep me acting like a big kid :-D . I'd like to do some track days and abit of strip action and i'm starting to think it wont cut it ?? , i've looked at tuning the 3F lump and if i chuck money at it i might get 120 bhp if i'm lucky but thats std G40 ish (115bhp).

Also like the idea of my sq eating some jap rides on the road , picture their faces as they get dusted by a little red estate car in a type -R civic :shock:8-) .

This is what i would like them to be looking at :-D

just look in the for sale section, + there was one on ebay last week

quite easily atainable

Two options...buy a conversion with as many bits as you can get...or buy a whole car.

You can pick G40 engines up for £300-1500 depending on spec. and how complete a conversion it is. I paid £600 for one with unknown history and some parts missing. I managed to get a gear box with it though which is mightly important. The lack of history doesn't bother me as it getting stripped and rebuilt.

You'll need/want a lot of other parts such as the G40 specific anti-roll bar mount on the drivers side, the better brakes (unless you forget about these and go for something better still), fuel pump and a few other bits and bobs. There are a lot of specific parts that make the G40 that bit better (steering arms and track control arms for example).

You'll pay more for a car (£1500+) but you should end up with a more complete set of parts. There was a red turbo G40 (£1600) on the for sale section....turbo should easily crack 170bhp so that might be worth a look?

 I always miss them , looks like i can get a full car and rip that apart for the bits but whats the point of all that work , ? what sort of money do G40 lumps go for .

Tav thanks for that sounds like a plan

Well the only point of that work is to do a complete conversion onto your car. Personally I would just buy a G40 Coupe and leave it as is. Much easier transfering bits from a car you have bought than trying to source all the parts you need.

I know what you saying about just buying a G40 as is but , how cool would it be to have a rapid est Q car 8-)8-)8-) , i just want to go racing anything quick :-D

theres one in the for sale atm, everything included i think :)

yeah thats what i was talking about.

i asked him a few questions about it.

it was remapped to 164 bhp, had top half of engine rebuilt and charger had covered hardly any miles since its rebuild.

BARGAIN imo

could of got some money back by selling parts that were not needed aswell :D :D

:cry: 164 bhp in my sq would of been fun , i'll have to keep an eye out :-) .

Getting into the retro rides thing of late and i think the sq will make a killer sleeper .

any peeps been to the retro car shows ? , fancy making some next year but dont know if my car would class as a retro ride :?
