Hi all,

Just bought my Mum's 1998 1.0 litre Polo with 30,000 miles on the clock as a run around as buying fuel for my 4.2 litre Audi to drive it to work was getting silly!

The cars in good condition, my Mum only did a 1200 miles a year so all has plenty of miles left in it. However, I have one problem which is worrying me! Due to the difference in the cars I drive, I've stalled the Polo a couple of times when just started from cold. If I do this, it will not easily re-start, it is like it is flooded. I have managed to get it going after lots of cranking and flooring the accelerator, or by bumping it. The car starts fine from cold and when hot, it is just a big problem if I have to re-start it when cold before it has had a chance to warm up. Has anyone any ideas what could be causing this? It's very annoying!

If it's like the later Polo's you have to put your foot flat to the floor and hold it there as you start the engine this over-rides the ECU's control of the fuelling. It may be that one of the temp senders is shot and causing the engine to flood as it chokes a hot engine thinking it's cold. This of course is only if that engine is set up the same as my girlfriends 02 plate Polo.

Mines the same, just don't stall it!
