1.3 SPi and 1.3 Carb differences?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have got a 1.3 SPI Mk3 Polo and I won a 1.3 carb engine on ebay..

Idea was to get a spare engine take the cam out and send for re-profile and play about with the head/bottom end.

So is the SPi and carb internal engine components, block and head the same?

Cheers people!

Mike

The only notable difference providing the carbed engine is a late hydraulic tappet one, is that there is provision for a fuel pump in the head. Other than that they are near enough the same. If it's an early engine though it will have mechanical tappets meaning the cam won't be interchangeable with a hydro head.

Thanks mate :)

Well I guess there is only one way to find out - not like the engine cost much anyway :D

I guess the bottom end will be pretty much be the same
