I'm sure i have seen some standard cars with the tyres proud of the arches at the floor, but not at the arch itself. Is this a way around the law or would you still get a kicking from your friendly neighbourhood plod if he noticed?

from what i gather it just has to be inside the arch at the top cus you see some people drive round with some pretty big camber mate

All to do with safety of pedestrians. Personally, they get what they get if they're walking on the road!

For an mot i think if the tyres are proud of the arches more than an inch or so at any point then it is a feel so therfore illegal i think its due to spray on roads in poor weather conditions, thats what the mot tester i work with said the other day correct me if I'm wrong :-D

The tread of your tyres must be within the arches. Different ways of getting around having wheels that are too wide...arch work, stretched tyres and camber...

if you want to get all tech it says some where that all moving parts of the car must be covered by the body work or something like that.

but many people ignore that including myself.
