quinn-direct (said i could add filter +exhurst with no charge)

Featured Replies

I rang my insurance company quinn-direct and asked how much extra it would cost for a k&N panel filter (which they class as an induction kit) and a fully stainless exhaust system and the woman said it will NOT cost anything extra.

so i told her to put it on my insurance.

no i have actually brought the items and got the panel filter on and the exhuast is being deliverd in the next few days i decided to ask to for this infomation in writing as some of the lads at collage were told this and they got it in writing so there is no argument iin the case of an accedent so i decieded to do there same to cover myself.

I rang up and told them this and now they are saying there is no record of this and that it will cost just under £160 extra and my insurance is void untill i pay this or take all mods of my car.

I'm witing for the manager to ring me back but is there anything i can do about this.

i did ring off my contract mobile phone so I've got proof that i rang them but this is all.

have i got a leg stand on or is there anyone else who i can ring as i dnt really know my rights here but i do no I'm not paying the extra £160.

what do you think?

Dont want to put a downer on it, but Quinn Direct are useless. They rarely keep things on record and seem to change their mind whenever they want. Well, thats my experience of them anyway. I hate to say it but there isn't really any arguing with an insurance company mate, especially these mugs.

The only thing I can suggest is for you to decide whether to just keep them on anyway. I know what I'd do mate ;)

How far into the policy are you? If its only been a short time, maybe try threatening to change insurers? I had a company change their story once, but they'd recorded the call and in the end admitted their fault. Adrian flux told me that induction kit and a solid engine mount wouldnt add anything to the premium, which was cool!

The best thing to do is tape the call too. Just tell them you're doing it so you're legal.

every call they take has to be recorded, fact.

youve got them by the bollocks if you can be arsed with the hassle.

ooh i was gunna go with quinn after crimbo but i might give it a miss now...i hate it when insurance companies say one thing then do the other...takes the piss

well I was pretty pleased with them at first, much cheaper price than anyone else so went with them (17yr old w/ provisional as policy holder, parents named)

anyway, rang them up when I passed my test and they wanted an extra £250, was a bit peeved but at the end of the day I just wanted to get on the road and it still meant the total premium was fairly reasonable compared to other insurers so I paid and left it at that - guess other companies would have done the same, or atleast it explained why quinn were that much cheaper than the competition at first?

week later they'd only charged me £25, checked my details online and it seemed all right - license type had been updated, so rang up to ask if the changes had gone through and was told I had an outstanding balance, had to wait 10 mins whilst the woman pissed about trying to unlock my details as apparently I was still logged in... (despite the fact the pc was now off), took the card details again and the remaining balance was finally deducted

seems a bit extreme to class a panel filter as an induction kit, was looking at getting a green cotton one but if it means having to faff about declaring and being charged extra I'm not sure I'll bother, don't suppose you know if the £160 was just for the exhaust or the filter actually bumped up the premium? think I'll ring them up and get a quote after xmas

you rang them up and told them they undercharged you :?

better that than try to make a claim later on to find I wasn't insured?

it wasn't like they had just deducted the wrong amount and it was "paid for" on their system, the balance was outstanding

I'm no expert when it comes to the legal ins and outs but would rather know it's all sorted than ignore it, after all they would only have contacted me later on asking for the rest of the money

no i rang them to ask for paperwork for the added items onto my policy. thats when they denied that i even rang up lol

and i tried the "well u record all calls" and they ld me they only record 75% of calls and that they could't/wouldnt check the call records.

They couldnt check the call records? So someone who's violent and threatening on the phone (theoretically) can get away with it becuase they cant check the records. Push them for it!

get your money back / cancel the policy bunch of idiots that quinn

am with quinn the now, there a pain in the arse to deal with, a want to put a full exhaust on after new year am defo going to record the calls just in case (y)

cheers

I got a quote online for some modifications - wheels, suspension and air filter and the online system quoted me £0

Now, I'm 17 on a TPF&T policy (me being the policy holder), the online system doesn't have many options for details though, so I guess after doing that they probably would have rang up asking for more info, followed by a charge?

Anyway, if you're thinking of adding any modifications I would check it out, declared my rear lights via it and seemed to work ok
