tried elephant? everyone will have different opinions on companies best to call them and haggle a bit!

well at that age dont think you'll be getting anything powerful. I think smart people budget are cheap.. just go on gocompare.com

mike

It was about 5 years ago now so maybe they don't still do it but Norwich Union used to give you 50% off in your first year if you have pass plus.

Norwhich union if you do pass plus!

  • 2 weeks later...

my lowest quote is 2300 :o but i live in a high crim e area

try moneysupermarket.com

I'm with Quinn direct, £930 third party f&t, me as the policy holder with parents named, 17 year old with a provisional on a mk4 1.6l

when I passed my test they raised the premium by £250 so that works out at £1180, which isn't bad at all imo

Hello,

Adrian Flux are a broker so are able to get quotes from different insurers and we do have some that specialise in younger drivers.

If you would be interested in hearing from us for a quote then PM me your name and contact details.

Dan.

adrianflux is rubbish. put me through to swinton and got a quote fore £2350 TPFT. 2 and a half times more than i pay now fully comp. :o

I found Adrian Flux were the best for me - I was older though, 18 with 1 year NCB.

They only missed out on having my custom this year by £50, and the fact that my current insurers allow me to go up to 100bhp (from 50!) at no extra charge ;)

Its always worth giving all these companies a quick call, especially as Dan has offered to get someone to call you!

try confused.com that's what i used and got my 1998 1.0 insured through quinn on provisional liscence, third party, fire & theft for £688.72 to be exact

another vote for quinn-direct!

BRENTACRE great with mods too!

quinn direct r pretty good, I've been with then for a few years since i was 17 and they hav always been the cheapest

I'm 18 atm and just bought a p reg 1.4 SE and my insurance is 1600 odd with LEXHAM, but if i wait until after my birthday which happens to be the later this month it drops to 1100 odd. so i save 500 quid. if youre a first time driver and this is the first car youre going to insure, try Insurance connections they were good for my first premium.

at 17 i paid 1400 on a 1.6cl that was with tesco... i heard good things about asda too

but my best quotes recently have been with elephant £650 I'm now 19

Another vote for Elephant here, they were by far the cheapest for me when I was 19 and 20 in a not so good postcode area. Thankfully I can't comment on their service as I've not had to claim, but based on price alone they're pretty good.

i was with quinn direct when i was on my provisional on my 6n2 1.4 16v 75bhp polo on provisional they were the cheapest , it was 1700 when i told them i passed they raised it by 1200 so total was 2900. i searched around as this was far too expensive so i went with churchill which is 1800. they're all fully comp by the way. hope that helps?

i dont know how every 1 is getting cheap quotes, I've looked EVERYwhere.... cheapest i got was 2500 with mods declared!

unlike the internet quotes apperently I'm not allowed to go on a policy with my parents with a modified car...grr..

Liverpool Victoria mate. My renewal quote on my 1.4 mk5 was £901 under my dads name, and I'm 18, and i had a slight bump in february before i even passed my test. Defo worth a shot mate.

Mate your better of getting it under your parents name, best quote I've had on my name was £3000 on a 1.4 mk4,

but under my dads name its £977.55 TPFT to be pricise on a 1.4 mk4 from Admiral and I'm 17 just passed.

Unfortunately all of you who go as named drivers under your parents name but are actually the main driver will be uinsured. Plus you won't be earning any NCB so will have high quotes still once you are on your own.

Pass Plus is good though, and you can always try the legal tricks of making sure your milage allowance isn't more than you need, adding females with good driving history to the policy, get an alarm, keep it in a garage if possible....

Gotta say though - even though I'm female my first years insuance on my own was horrific. BUT I got 1 years NCB, and then my insurance dropped by half, and this year its dropped by another £200 :)

I was with some random company, then went to Adrian Flux, and this year I am with Brentacre who are lovely.

It's got to be proved though that you're the main driver, which short of stalking you, would be pretty hard to prove.

gotta agree. theres no way of finding out who the main driver is without following you for a few weeks, which would not come cheap as they would need to hire people to do the job.

there are a lot of insurers giving named driver ncd which will be valid with them, which makes it alot cheaper and you will save ALOT of money in the long run.

I'm not advising people to go as named drivers if they are the main ones!
