I was wiring up some new speakers to the standard head unit and it stopped working at all. I think I've blown the fuse... Where is the fuse for it / where is the fuse box?

its either in the fusebox (not sure which one) or on my headunit there is also one on the back of the head unit.

Well the head unit doesnt have a wired connection, just a plug, so I've taken it out but i cant see a fuse at the back of it.....

mk3 fusebox is under the bonnet on the passenger side of the car under the windscreen

and its one of the fuses on the bottom iirc.

Right, after a painfully cold cleaning session, I've fixed the radio.

Checked the fusebox and they were all in tact, so removed the radio, and the cage, and found a little glass fuse tucked away behind it.

It was a 3 amp, went to 2 motor factors, the first had none, the second charged me 30p for a 2 amp and said it would be fine...

Went across the road to an electrical wholesalers, who gave me a handful of 3 amps for free, 10 minutes after closing time.

So its all sorted now, fitted the new Kenwood 3.5 inchers and finally tuned in my radio presets lol.

Hello mate, I've got the same problem at the moment. I've been trying to change the standard Blaupunkt (which was working fine in the GT this morning) for a Sony MP3 jobby (was working fine on Friday in my 6n2) and since plugging in the Sony now neither head unit will work. I also tried the original Beta head unit from the 6n2 and that also wouldn't fire up. I checked the fuses on the head units themselves and they're all fine, and the units work fine in my 6n2.

Doing a search found your post above and I've just come in from having a look in the dash with a torch but couldn't see any likely looking fuses. Was it an inline fuse on one of the wires leading to the head unit and can you remember which wire it was on? Any help would be hugely appreciated as I've got a 90 minute round trip tomorrow to look forward to with no tunes!

I think you're right, I've read that too. The interior light works fine, which is why I thought it might be this mysterious other fuse :) The cigarette lighter seems to be on the same circuit, but I don't have one of those (it's blanked off)

Quick update - I haven't blown a fuse at all. The earth wire has been cut and removed on the car side of the loom, and the Blaupunkt happens to earth through the antenna connection. Neither of my other two head units do this so they won't work at all until I sort out a new earth connection.

Stereo, cigarette lighter, interior light and clock are all on same fuse.
