I feel like a newbie because i've never shown anything even though i've been a member for over a year.

I planned to have this car on the road in June and my god it's been a hell of a job getting near it to get it through it's mot. I've been getting the bus between villages all that time. It's not run for two years, bought it off a friend of friend for £90.

It's my daily car so just wanted to do subtle mods smooth the body a bit, 60/40 kit(thanks to philj, legend) and just keep everything black and red. I'm quite happy with steels just now but if the right 5.5j wheels come along then fair enough.

I actually think the lowerage is more important than the wheels at 1st and breadvans are not ideal for wide wheels as discussed on many a thread.

I did a welding class last year and welded the battery tray, an entire section below the grill(hence the satin black) plus the valence. The hardest bit was getting rid of the mouldings on the arch one of which had a hell of a dent so I

smoothed them off. Anyway as a result I should of painted the whole car but not a good time of year in a cold farm out building. I've patched the paint with colour match which will do till hopefully a proper respray next year. At least there

won't be much prep. I have also done some serious rust prevention with cavaty wax from Bilt and Hamber plus the usual under seal where needed.

Plans are: webber conversion of which I have most of the bits, Components and amp(build something into door that looks stock), I've got polybushes ready but no hurry as I fitted new track control arms which have fresh standard bushes so I can see/feel the difference. Oh and the brakes! g40 upgrade. Thats it really just want it clean looking.

Anyway just wanted to thank Philj, Charlie(for carb) Hows your pool ball?, Poloracing(for bits) and the whole forum for all the advice I have absorbed. Also my mate Gav for most of the mechanical who isn't on forum but drives a mk2 Golf 16v.

Next project is a caddy (in a hell of a state)

It's one notch from the top on the rear, why is it still looking low or will the front settle?

The caddy, don't hold your breath for this one

What a time to get it back on the road been below freezing for days, carb freezing gave me the scares but diverting the hot air tube sorted it.

I'll get it up in members rides once I've sorted a few more bits.

As for the caddy? working on the body initially, the bed is in hellish state could take a year? but I will axle flip with coilovers. Imagine a caddy that looked like this:

Glad you're happy with the carb mate, good to see it being used rather than sititng on my coffee table! The pool ball is awesome thanks, now I can finally find 5th as well .

I've seen a caddy done up all nascar styles it was in a german VW mag. Had a massive poster of it but its stuck to a wall in my mates garage. It looked sick tho had all the net windows and everything. Oh yeah nice bready too.

Its refreshing to see someone doing the important but sometimes nasty jobs such as welding, rust prevention and body repairs etc first. The Bilt Hamber products are really good too. A proper repair rather than tons of filler on the rear arch for instance deserve respect. Good on you.

The car looks really smart - even with the patchy paintwork. You have obviously put a lot of effort into getting the car to this stage, the interior and engine bay look superb.

If you do respray the bodywork when the weather improves, it'll look a very very tidy car indeed.

Totally agree with you on the wheels. Why fuck about trying to fit expensive and easily damaged alloys when a set of tidy black steels look so cool?

I don't think the front will drop, I wonder whether they are 40mm springs instead of 60mm? I'd suggest raising the back to get it level - or - better still get some lower front coils.

The ride height seems to have settled now,front has dropped a bit. It's hard to tell when your on a bumpy farm road.

I wish the weather would get milder, not a good time to deal with teething problems. Just had my first experience of black ice, saw a 4x4 in the ditch just in time to prevent the breadvan from following it in.

Also been in Edinburgh. speedbumps are a total nightmare just off Easter road.

Thanks, Yes it's a real pool ball made with the inside of a polo knob, Drill press and steel putty does the trick but you need to make a jig to hold the ball. I made one for Charlie in purple as part currency :) might be persuaded to make more as I have other pool balls bar the black one which my mate snaffled.

I can assure you it's not meant to look like that, It's very soon after I put the kit on it's a notch down at the rear on a philj 60/40 kit so should be more arse in the air :)

I think it's settled now i've done a few miles and in the photo theres nothing level (bloody farm roads)

Mate that looks ruddy B-E-A-utiful! Stock steels are the way forward!

The body work looks really nice, starting on mine next week (never done it before)

And the engine bay looks well tidy.

I'm still rolling in this, wish the paint was looking as good as it did then even though it was a patch work. I'm about to evaluate what needs done to this to keep it on the road till the end of Uni (Sept 2011). It has a whole bunch of issues that are really starting to annoy me. Can't really complain though as it has only ever broken down because of failed alternator bearing and the odd blocked jet. Just not running quite right.

nice lil bready that and fair play to you for catching buses everywhere I've been in your neck of the woods it must get pretty damn isolated up there especially in winter but keep up the good work
