Hi dudes and dudets this is my new loon what do you think.

1989 Polo Saloon C with 2 previous owners and only 51k on the clock.

I bought it just how I like to buy old cars, uncleaned in years covered in moss and dull paintwork. After a hard week of removing bumpers, arches, sill covers, front grille, basicly anything bolted on and T cutting and polishing it to death it has scrubbed up very nicely.

I have fitted new BOGE shockers allround with 40 mm lowering springs, new top mounts, new standard size front brakes (very scary ), new front wheel bearings and gave it a service .

I have also fitted red trimmed front grille, clear front and side repeaters and a red trimmed dash panel insert. German style plates are ordered and I am now saving my pennies for some 14'' alloys or GTI steelies.

are the pic's of it with the lowering kit? if so I reckon you could go further and add some nice black alloys with polished rims and that would be perfect!!

Yep already lowered. I don't want to go to low speed humps and comfort are a priority.

Are those new bumpers? I got a new front bumper once and it had that silver trim on the top. You should have got the grille with the silver strips to match, hard to find but so worth it.

It did come with the silver trimmed grille but i personally prefer the red trimed one :-D . Also it has already got the 40mm lowered springs fitted, it looks much lower in person. I will see how it looks when i fit 14's to it, I might lower further if needs be, say 60mm.

What a great find this was, as you say the dirty but unmolested and original examples are the best ones to start with.

All your hard work has paid off, that looks a real minter. You have paid lots of attention to detail by removing all the trim to clean everything properly. Respect is due mate. The results have been well worth all the effort.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about going much lower, particularly if you need to retain good ride comfort.

TBH, I even quite like the wheel trims too. If you did decide to fit different wheels, I wouldn't fit alloys - I've yet to see a set that suit a saloon. However, a set of Golf GTi steels finished in silver would look the business!

Absolutely stunning! Agreed on wheels, 14" steels would look the business. Do what you feel though, looking uber so far

Hows your chrome window trim? Has a tendancy to look like plastic 15 years on..

Dont think i could cope with that intirior thou

Very very nice example , I would personally stick with older skool 13" and Philj 60/40 lowerage but as you say it's the practicality of having it too low.

Just keep it simple that what i say. I spent as much time rust preventing as I did with mods with my breadvan.
