Request: Pics of Mk4 engine bays!

Featured Replies

Hi all... Setting about sorting out my engine bay soon. I aint going spending that much, its just to really clean it up as best I can!

My plans include the following...

Strut brace

Polished rocker cover

1.0 badge smoothed off

VW badge replaced with smaller VW Golf mk4 one in same place (nicer, blue, white, black and chrome)

main plastic rocker cover and top of airbox sprayed gloss black

Custom bent Aluminium Induction pipe 9polished)

Blue filter on end behind drivers side headlight

As much wiring hidden as possible.

Samco blue hosing used where possible.. (Friends leftovers but plenty)

What parts can be easily moved or hidden and where?

What did people do with the manifold heatshield, polish it or paint black??

Any other ideas?

All pics welcome!!!

Oh and meant to say 8v please!!!!!!

plans sound awesome!!

remove the heatshield i say if the manifold itself is in good nick!

what about painting the manifold if you can flat down a good smooth surface? surely there is paint which will withstand the temp extremities the manifold goes to?

when you fit the alu induction pipes i think you will notice you free up quite a lot of space when you remove all the old airbox piping as it is very cluttered looking

have you got any current pics off the bay as standard?

At the mo the plastics are out being smoothed (detextured)... badge is removed and trial fitted the smaller blue and white one...(looks and fits perfect)... Induction kit on top of engine with black custom heatshield with all the airbox and piping removed so dont actually have a standard pic... But id love to have one so I can compare the end result...

I also have a template made up for how I want the pipe bent... Its a piece of wire bent exactly with cardboard circles along it (2"diamter) to ensure it clears the engine mount!

theres a place local enough to get it bent, few mates got inetrcooler piping made up!

Anybody know where Id get strut top covoers or a nice oil filler cap??

Oh and i repleced the blue coolant cap with a black one! LOL

Manifold would look cat painted.... Either needs to be re-made from flat sheet and painted black or polished or something... I aint shelling out for a new manifold! Non standard exhausts soon to be banned in Irleand, ! Wahey!

Not really a special engine by, but this is the bay of mine once i'd give it a good clean.

just spotted that

I've not had anything chromed... its either been polished by hand or its stainless steel

^^ tej engineering, sheet metal working and hand blistering complete with a picture and KFC

hmm well i emailed pureklas a month or so ago and asked for a quote on some things i wanted chroming/gold plating and got a relpy on the bonnet catch of:

bonnet catch ( needs to be stripped into its many parts ) c - 20 g - 35 :?

All very nice, one question though, wheres the washer resivoir for the screen wash as compared to my 8v, yours is missing? (if that makes sense?)

Also Tej, where did you get that expansion tank from?

both them guys have eradicated the washers all together though iirc but i have a mini washer bottle relocated behind the scuttle tray on the near side it JUST fits in and i used all the std polo fixings in the mini bottle just removed the tape from the loom shortened the wires to the bottle back throught the bulkhead and retaped the loom and the washer wires

Cool, thanks, where did you get your mini washer bottle from???
