i bought this OBD2-usb cable off ebay and have downloaded vag com off ross-tech. but the vag com application cannot find the "interface".

what might the problem be?

ok so now I've managed to get the interface (cable) to work. but when i plug it into the car it says "car not found"

I've just bought one as well mate and i'm in the same boat as you.

I thought it was something to do with my wiring when i converted my cat to GT engine etc, but after looking at the Haynes, i don't think its me at fault now, i think its something to do with the cable.

I've tried it on a 93/94 Passat and i couldn't get it to work on that either.

Which seller did you get you're cable off?

are you using the right version of vag-com? Certain cables will only work with certain versions, the ebay listing should have said which version it is for.

Although sometimes it seems some cables just don't work very well. People seem to have more trouble with the USB ones too a friend of mine has a usb cable which he has never been able to get to work.

Very true!

Alot of cables from ebay are shite...Poor driver software and easy drop off connections...

How much did you pay for yours? Anything cheapers than £20 is a no no...

Mine was £35 delivered...have to wait 4 weeks but theres no problem at all...solid from the start, always works.

mine was about a tenner but it's a serial cable. not USB. It works with version 311 of vagcom with my passat. However, it wont work with vagcom with my G40, I use a similar (but pretty old) piece of software simply called VWTOOL with my g40.

I'm using version 409.1.

this is the only version that says "interface found" (COM 3). but it still cannot connect to the car.

its a cheap usb cable, roughly £13

Mate I had a look on ebay tryna find the seller...But I can't find him anymore...Bugger Its from german ebay...

My interface is on COM1...but that shudnt matter

I know it may sound daft but are you sure you have switched ignition to on? Before you connect to the car?

All version of Vagcom works mate...

But 409.1 is the most popular one as nearly all cables on ebay is designed to run that version

I got mine to work on a 95 reg Passat today, using Release 3112 of VAG-COM.

But it doesn't seem to matter what Release i try, i cannot get it to work on my Polo, In the list of Chassis types, it only supports 6N and 9N Polo's.

I'm sure i read somewhere, possibly on an ebay listing for the cables, that it will only work on the older Vdubs with four wires. If your car has only three wires, it doesn't work.

While i was tracing the wires on the wiring diagram in the Haynes, the GT has four wires but the yellow one isn't connected to anything, the yellow and white wire goes to the ECU. So i am now assuming that the GT isn't compatible with VAG-COM.

On the Single point injection, both of the wires go back to the ECU so they must work. (I think)

I can't speak for the GT but my AAV spi has only three wires going into the two 2-pin plugs and it works with a genuine ross-tech cable. I can't remember which colours they are but pretty sure there's only three.

i almost got it working today on version 311-2.

after clicking on one individual controller it works, but then as soon as u click on another button the program will crash.

then if u re-open the program it wont work, u have to re-install it and/or disconnect the cable.

at least i managed to find out the rear left abs sensor is faulty.

Anyone trying to get it to work with a G40 or GT, try using this instead of vagcom:

It's quite an old application but it's not like g40/gt ECUs have changed!

i think i've found out why the program keeps crashing. its because I'm using windows vista and it should only work on systems upto XP.

Oh yeah forgot to say VAGCOM 409.1 is not stable under Vista.

I have to run XP parallel to work it. Maybe get a copy of XP running would solve the crashing?

What vag com version should a 9n polo work with
