I still have my air Impact wrench from my old work, yet I have no compressor to run it.

Just having a flick over ebay and noticed you can get some powerful cordless ones made by Dewalt and the likes.

My air gun was rated to the below:

FREE SPEED; 7000RPM

AIR CONSUMPTION; 4CFM

however the cordless Dewalt one is much more powerfull by the looks of things:

There are cheaper none branded ones rated to 230 is N.m is this enough or will 418 N.m be what I m after for the Bar-Stewards of nuts.

Whats your thought on this chaps. Is

Worked it out that Dewalt one is running at 418 NM which is 308 Ft/lbs. Still fair bit more powerful! Not sure if its really worth it!

Cheap electric ones don't last. Decent electric ones do last a few years but cost silly money. Decent brand air ones go on forever and a day. Yes, the catch is you need a compressor, but they go for bugger all on ebay, and they're handy for doing other stuff like pumping your tyres up.

On the other hand, for ability to use it down a scrapyard, you can't beat a cordless.

Thanks, you have a point there. What sort of money and spec of compressor will I need. Never really though much off it when i was at work. We jus had a big mutta of a thing!

Depends what you're using it for. Unless you're painting, a 50l will be fine. You could get away with a 25l, but it'll be working it's arse off all day long. If you go bigger, you'll be able to do more stuff with it, but you'll spend 5 minutes waiting for it to get up to pressure and ripping into your electric bill just to pump a tyre up.

Also worth thinking about where you'll keep it. If you're going to have to wheel it out the house and across the garden everytime you want to use it, smaller has a certain appeal to it.

50 ltr sounds the way forward. I doubt I'll ever paint with it. just a bugger of a nut, or difficult to get to stuff.

Certainly nowt wrong with it, not too sure about their RRP, but it's cheap for a new one. On the other hand you'd probably get a second hand one for £40 at the most if you're lucky with what's listed.

Cool, think I'll go for something like that. Will be stripping my 6n polo soon. prob come across a few bugger o bolts and need to do some body work too, so I can run the sander disk off it too. Not forever, just small spots. :grin:

If that's the one - I wouldn't, it just doesn't look like it's meant for anything like proper use.

And electric impact wrench i dont believe will ever be as good as a wind powered one

Don't know to be honest, the local scrap yard's been using one all day everyday for 2 years now and it was doing the job well the other week when I borrowed it.

i wouldnt mind an electric one, havnt got the space for a compressor. Anyone know any cheapish ones that are decent enough?

These are alright, can get them for about £120.

I would definatly reccomend the dewalt 18v impact wrenches, they are the shizzle, they real powerful! (just watch your wrists lol)

Need a impact wrench in my life makes jobs so much quicker, took me like 30minsand bloody hands to get 2 seized top mount nuts off, they would have been off in 2 ins with impact wrench.

Can you get them with adjustable torque? or are these only really any good for undoing things? It says on that de-walt one up to 400Nm or something, but that's going to ruin a lot of stuff!

They're only really for undoing stuff. An air ratchet is for putting it back together if you're lazy (as I am at times). The reason they reverse is stubborn left-handed threads (pug hub nuts, that sort of thing).

I probably wouldn't go for the Dewalt on the grounds it's corded, to me I might as well be trailing an airline, either way I can't use it in the scrap yard.

i know what u mean yeti, but i cant think of many times I've needed one in a scrappy and if u ask nicely many yeards will take something off for you is your a usual customer and give em a few quid extra. Think I'm going to go for it as its mainly for rebuilding my mk1 and swappin bits between my other spare one etc and ill be doin a full swap from my car onto a full bare shell next winter so dont really need a cordless inside the garage.

The cheapest complete cordless ones are and extra £80 and i just cant afford it :(

I bought the DeWalt 400ish Nm impact wrench the other day.

Cant fault it. makes like so easy. Battery lasts quite abit but begins to loose any serious power quite a while before it gives up.

air compressor is a slipery slop. will lead to loads more air tools etc which is good but expensive. you need to get one big enough to last and you also need the space to put it.

DeWalt one is bang on for under £300. Although the snap-on one goes upto 900Nm and they are not that much more expensive (about 450 trade price)
