Max brake disc size inside 14" wheels?

Featured Replies

Got a Mk2 Polo 1989 running 14" 6J Montreals. If I want to upgrade the brakes, will the extra space allow me to get a 256mm disc in or am I stuck with 239?

256s should be the biggest you can get under a 15" without fancy calipers or fancy wheels

IIRC Montreals are off a 16V mk2 Golf which should have 256mm brakes.

yes you should be able to fit 256mm under those. I think when pinches said 15", it was a typo? You can get 280mm+ under most 15" wheels.

yes definitely a typo i meant 14"!! i never even saw i'd put 15" i think the biggest you can go under 15s is 305mm

Brilliant - thanks guys.

I have 280's under my 14's with 10mm spacers

am probably going to change to wilwood 256's though.

does anyone know how far the pistons stick out from the hub mounting on the wilwoods?

using those silver brembo calipers?

TSR used to do a 270 disc for 14 inches which was basically a 280mm disc turned down to fit.

I've heard mixed views about this conversion which was just a case of fitting the disc and relocating your calipers with some brackets.

Sorry for the Hi-Jack!

i fitted 280s under 14 inch modernlines with 20mm spacers with VWII calipers

tsr kit is still available thru tsr or on ebay around 200 quid, with discs, discs were specials from black diamond also avail from tsr at 140 not inc vat

i believe they were turned down rover discs as the offset is different compared to the g60 discs

id say that the 256mm discs with G60 calipers gives me better braking that the 270mm setup with VWII calipers
