Few pics before its winter makeover

Featured Replies

Well its been a while since i last posted on here been working all the hours of the west at work so haven't had time.

Thought i'd post the last pictures of it how it looks now before i start work.

This is no longer going to be a checkbook motor now i've been working in a bodyshop for the last 8 months and i intend to do all the work myself with help a bit of help from others at somepoints.

This is how it stands now

And my favourite picture of it at edition 38

Got huge plans for it this winter and it should be getting started after boxing day, which I'm excited about.

Its getting a full colour change, as i and alot of others have said the merc blue isn't working on it, its just too subtle and hides all the modifications.

I'm refurbing the wheels to make them a little more special.

The engines coming out so i can do some smoothing to the bay and depending on how mad i go painting the gearbox and manifold and polishing the rocker cover.

The f1 style mirrors are getting sacked for some lupo ones, hopefully some 20 mm spacers and a few other bits and bobs.

Should be out and about for the start of the show season.

Hopefully will be able to do lots of updates although someone on this forum wont mention names sent me a virus over msn the other day so I'm on the old school computer for now.

Cant wait to start!

I remember when you first had all that done, saw it at gti spring fest that year 8-)

Are you going to give the colour away? or is it all secrets :unibrow:

Good luck with the fresh mods 8-)

I'm going to try my hardest to keep it a secret because i've not told many people but i might get to excited one day and give it all away lol

Yer that was the first show i'd ever been to its come on a bit since then.

Aaw man, I really like the colour it is now. I think that it really complements the exceptionally smooth bodywork of the car.

Liking much of the other mods that you've got on the list, but I have to say that you've already got a really deadly looking car 8-)

I've now started work on the Gt.

Got cracking on it yesterday got the boot, rear bumper, front and rear lights and bonnet off. This morning the front bumper came off and i prep'd it for primer then i started smoothing the little line near the rear lights, after that i started prepping the bonnet for primer and sorting a little dent from where its been pushed.

Then i started on the engine bay 8-) couldn't get much done as the engine hasn't come out yet but i thought i'd make a start.

Heres how the front end looked yesterday

The rear end this morning

Then i got the grinder out :-D

grinding.jpg

I removed as much sealer as i could with the engine in and then grinded off bolts that hold on the old air box and washer jet tank.

Cant wait to get the engine out then i can do alot more.

Oh and I'm removing the roof rails aswell now i decided today why the hell not lol

Hopefully another update tomorrow

What do you reckon?

top work fella! realy getting stuck in aint you!

Looking good dude, removing the sealer is a right bastard of a job. What you using? Knotted wire wheel? I found that best!

You doing a full smooth bay or just a tidy up?

  • Author

i just attacked it with the grinder at work and the sealer just came straight off. at the moment its just a tidy up but i know what I'm like and soon enough it'll be a full smooth bay.

Yeah really been cracking on with it hopefully i'll be back on it tomorrow after going to the walk in center to get some metal out my eye lol good fun

saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam!

hows it going geezar! good too see you are mission'in on with the GT, ill have to pop over sometime in the new year to see your progress.

i can sort of guess the colour already, mmmmm if it what we have discussed about for ages then i hope you do-it!

the caddys getting treatment toooooooooooooo

SAM i would check before getting rid of the roof rails.

Do you remember Jon? he bought DK's old G40 Van. He took the roof rails off with out knowing that, that lip is what is holding the roof to the side panels of the car. After he did that he had to bin the shell.

I am 99% sure on this so just check before doing this as i don't want you to have to bin that shell.

Edit does anyone else remember what jon did?

It can be done, but you need to cut and weld it in sections so that it doesn't just fall appart. I looked into it briefly because I wanted to do it. In the end I decided not to cause I thought my driving style would probably break it

Should always wear goggles dude, I do, you only get one set of eyes!!

Yeah dont i know it had to go casulty just got back after some doctor geezer drilled my eye ball.

Yeah dave thats what i said but my boss isn't having any of it he gave me a long and complicated explaination as to how it would work so if he wants it done he's going to have to do it.

Yeah heartagram i've got a feeling my driving style would break it aswell lol

I've got to bo something with the rails suppose i could be different and think of something else that i could do, i really need to figure out what else could be done to them.

Proper cracked on yesterday flatting out any imperfections in the body work and then prepping the bumpers bonnet boot and the whole body of the car.

Its pritty much there now on the outside. i've got to prime the bonnet, front bumper, boot, spoiler, rear arches and near the rear lights where i have smoothed, so I'm happy with the progress so far.

Tomorrow i want to get the doors off and my mate is coming in to take the engine out so i can crack on with the bay so look out for some good updates tomorrow.

Heres what i did yesterday.
