MK3 POLO GT - ORIGINAL CASSETTE PLAYER - WHICH ONE?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to go all retro on my Polo GT and want to put an original cassette deck in it.

Just wondering if anyone knows what models it may have had fitted?

Would appreciate as much info as possible...

Thanks :D

What model do you have in that?

Most likely a Blaupunkt, there were a few models depending on options. I'll have a look which one mine's got in in a bit.

Sony pull out deck I think?

I have a Panasonic pull out in mine.

Just checked the workshop - my Mk3 came with a Panasonic pull out too

It's the Golf that had a Sony pull out, probably aftermarket

Thanks! Anyone happen to know the model name for the panasonic?

I thought this may have been in it/from the same era... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=019

Brand new (old stock) for a tenner!

It's a VW Beta, they were mid-90's onwards I think.

Reckon that would suit for a tenner? Lol.

Also did you have chance to check which model yours was Yeti?

I stand (well sit) correctted - I just pulled mine out to be sure and it's got a GM sticker on the back.

I'm pretty sure basic spec was a Blaupunkt and the Panasonic pull out was an option. No doubt dealers would have fitted other things as a promotion and to seal deals.

I have quite a nice middle line between decent sound and old/not worth nicking in the work car. I have an older JVC radio cassette (black front/red LED screen), looks totally non-descript, but runs a 12 disc changer, 4 speakers and a vibe active sub rather nicely. The best bit is, you can pick a full r/cass and changer for well under £50 on ebay.

in mine (mk2) i had a Blaupunkt retro radio with the 2 knobs either end with MW and LW on it. but i took it out as there was no fm!

The retro radio sounds cool... The main reason I'm looking for one is going to do to my Polo what I was going to do in my Beetle...

Old skool radio/cassette up front, ipod hookup with amp under the passenger seat, door pod speakers and stealth shelf probably.

In my golf I currently have an Alpine with a proper Ipod hookup in the glovebox which is sweet, but wanna go old skool on the polo

My MK3 has a sony with VW branding on it. Its a face off one, but i'm yet to take it out and see wether its standard gear.

Mine has a Blaupunkt, not too sure if it was standard tho cos the wiring is a mess (wasnt standard DIN). Still struggling to get my Clarion mp3 cd player working tho after most of today!!

I HATE WIRES! lol

Panasonic in my 89mk2, Looks brilliantly simple.

Thanks for this, I might copy your idea because the amp i'm looking at has an mp3/ipod connection.

Would love to get the original early Blaupunkt radio, think I threw one out a year back

Yep that is the one that I had in my 1990 Polo and 1989 Golf :)

This is the one in my GT sorry for the crap pic. It's a Blapunkt Boston CC 22.
