My god that is one tight bay if the inter cooler needs to go on top of the engine.

But there is that air intake on top of the bonnet yeah?

theres a number of advantages of putting it there, it might not be just cause they run outa space elsewhere.

Nice socket set :p

Btw nice pics

porn porn porn...those mini coopers S suit the race look well! also...please dont tell me you know the owner of it :o would love a ride in it!!!

Such as? Shorter pipe run perhaps, but on the Cooper S the pipes are pretty tortuous.

Only reason the stock i/c ended up on top of the motor on the Cooper S was for packaging reasons. On the race cars they sacked off the aircon rad and tweaked a few other things so they could stick proper front mounts on instead.

Similar thing goes for the likes of Pulsars and Imprezas - the WRC Subarus have front-mounts, the Prodrive engineers I spoke to when I was there said the stock i/c location was terrible for heat-soak.

Bit of a different story though if you've got a big dirty supercharged V8 and have the 'charger nestling in the 'V' sitting on top of a water-to-air intercooler on top of the inlet manifold - that tends to make sense.

the cooler is their on a mini cooper S because their is literally no space elsewhere, the air con condenser sits in front of the radiator so thats pushed back a little and you know the size of the eaton so their is not much space ,you have to remember it has got things like air con power steering and few other extra's,the new turbo ones have got it mounted underneath the radiator as their is more space now the charger has gone

its my dads mini. so weird to drive a car that actually handles really well.

not many pics of the g40. just stripping it down bit by bit and having a look about, sorting out things I am not pleased with.

Mini Cooper S has a bonnet scoop. So does the newer turbo one but not sure why, just for looks i suppose.

all the mini racing cars ditch the extras in the bay and run a front mount. I think I got some pictures of the '1320 Autos' 1/4 mile car.

the race cooper s i run uses the std i/c but its a shite place really to put them as there is minimal room underneath it for the air to actually pass thro

i beleve on the std s- bumpers you could fit a thin i/c infront of the air con rad but getting the pipes to it would be a right pain in the ass
