Basicly I'm thinking about getting a Bluefin ECU so i can monitor and adjust the settings on my car whilst on the move!

But the question is i need a laptop to run the programe, and was wondering which laptops people would reccommend?

I wouldn't have thought you would need anything fantastic to run their software. A good second hand toshiba or compaq/HP would be my personal preference. It would also depend on the minimum hardware requirements for the prog, and possibly the interface used?

i'm getting the laptop off my dad so that i can map the megasquirt etc and for photos to :p

A laptop for for mapping would not need to be the best of the best.

Just make sure that the software is compatible with vista as 99% of laptops/computers will already have that installed on them.

an older laptop is better, or often the 'business' laptops.

reason being they are more likely to have an onboard serial IO - 9/10 new laptops dont and you have to piss about with adaptors

Bluefin as in the Superchips product that plugs into the OBD port? Didn't think they did anything for the Polo?

And that their product allowed you to reflash their upgraded code onto your car yourself, but didn't give you a full-on calibration tool/interface?

All depends what management you're using really. I know that Megasquirt can be a bit moody with cheapo USB-to-serial adaptors, but the Maplin one we used was fine. Other systems can be bought with USB interfaces anyway.

Friend of a friend works for blue fin, and has configured a setup my polo, soo ill just hasve to wait and see what it performs like!

juts comes down to what you want to spend really! As has been said, if you buy a new one watch out for the software not working with vista or the fact that the laptop probably wont have a serial port.
