Swapped back to steels whilst i'm ferbing the old alloys and i must say

FUGLY!!! but i'm loving that my car is lighter but hate the lack of grip!!!

Taken off 185 60 14's and put on 145 60 13

not really, yeah they are larger than standard but the speedo matches the actual speed better now!!!

I can't imagine why you'd want such wide tyres on a 1 litre Polo, but if you have to have 195's you need 45 profile to keep the gearing correct and speedo reading right.

If you have good quality 155/70's on 13" rims its surprising just how well they handle. My mk2 Breadvan was nimble and had plenty of grip under most circumstances.

its not that i had to have 195's. thats what was advised to me by the guys in local VW garage!

the alloys came with (i think) 175 55 14 and the speedo was well out so i wanted to go slightly larger but obv went a little too far!!!

I don't think you can get 175/55/14's, at least I couldn't find anyone who made or listed a tyre in that size.

However, 195/45 or 185/50 keep the rolling radius correct.

either:

a) give them a mirror polish and lacquer them up

or

b) strip down and repaint

If they don't polish well/i can't be arsed, they'll be getting the paint treatment

195/60-14s are a larger profile than those used on Mk2 Golfs

Your speedo will under read by miles, unless you have a Golf speedo drive fitted

But hey, if they don't rub...
