hi I'm a bit concerned a bit bout lowering the car as i do occasionaly have friend sitting in the back i dont the arches touching the tyres any ideas what can be done without spending alot of money thanks

I know its difficult to believe when you use this forum, but it is actually possible to lower your car to improve its looks, handling and roadholding without it scraping the floor!

I don't really know (or care) too much about the mk4 Polo's, but I think you can lower them around 60mm and still have reasonable practicality. If your tyres and wheels are of a sensible size and offset then you should be ok.

Check out the Jackson Tuning section on this site. He can get all sorts of kits to suit all budgets and give advice on how low to go etc. Prices are good and Phil J is a good bloke too.

k thanks for you help I'm thinkin 60 at front and 40 at back as i am keepin the standard wheels on

as above really.. coilovers are the way to go then u can play around with ride height.

the worst problem with keeping your standard wheels and tyres will be the high profile your tyres will most likely have, dependant on your alloy size you can get lower profile tyres which will give you a bit more clearance but if its decked it most probably will scrub when youve got people in the back

60/40 with decent profile tyres should be good enough, but 4 up in the car and you will most probably get scrubbage, if your that worried or carry loads of passengers often then dont bother lowering it

People always say coilovers are the way to go. But not always, if you know what height you want then a spring and shock kit should be enough. No point in spending extra money on something you don't need. Plus coilovers need more maintenance than shocks and springs kit to keep them from seizing.

As far as I'm aware spring and shock kits usually give a better ride than coilovers. So again, that might be something you want to look into.

On the whole, people on here will say just get coilovers purely because you can adjust the height (to get the car as low as possible) but if thats not something you need then they probably aren't worth looking into.

I'd imagine a 60/40 with a sensible tyre choice should work out okay. Can't guarantee though as I'm not much into mk4s!

I'm with Bell. I think its an extra £40 odd a year. They keep telling me that they don't really deal with mods so cant insure me against anything serious. They were by far the cheapest though, less than half the price of HIC. I'm just waiting till it runs out then I might move over to a more mod friendly company...
