Right bought a conversion

And to cut long story short

I have some people telling me its not a G40 engine

and others saying it is

Tried to get a couple of pics of some numbers if someone could shed some light on this

so you think some one has replaced the lump with just a normal polo engine? what does it drive like?

well its looks like a g40 engine but wether the block is a py or not can't tell. the part number 030...... G where abouts is that?

tbh I don't know what has gone on but someone somewhere is telling porkies

and i want to get to the bottom of it

Well runs a bit shit bit like a misfire but wiring loom looks a bit pikey so could be that

Charger has just had a service so can't really boot it but seems to be a lack of power

thought so. well if there isnt a knock sensor plug on the back then it cant be can it. clean that number up on the side of the block next to the bell housing.

031100103AX thats the number I'm getting off etka for the py block.

to be honest I'm not 100% where the number should be though.

tain - Don't think so mate which I can proove with pictures from both engine bays

Mine did not have wires chopped off and loads of spade connectors

while your at it clean the top flat area of the gearbox and check for the ATV might as well see thats right while your at it.

you should be able check fot the knock sensor by jacking the car up and getting under neath i think and having a quick butchers.

if you dont already know the top bit being the flat area that touches the side of the block.

Ye will do someone has mentioned the gearbox is another mystery

if it's where the engine number is on my 1.3 MH engine, it should be on the front of the block on the top left corner where the alternator mount bolts on, i only noticed mine when i had taken the head off tho.

not sure if it would be the same on the PY tho...

well i recon its a mk2 g40 block, would explain things if no knock sensor...

and PY005xxxx does seem low, and mine is PY007xxxxx

ah mate I'm just using vagcat i dont know how to do that. sorry.

well the block says says *PY 005781* or 61

which = G40 to be sure put a bit of white paper over it and rub it with a pencil

think someones pulling you are leg. not sure on the head number. but the blocks G40 anyway

think its a mk2 block2 with a mk3 charger usual vw use up the old bits till they run out. 005 is a low number mines 009 and its out a 1991/2 car.

i think it looks like its missing a bolt out of the bell housing into the block? unless the block is different and there is no hole.
