I'm gonna go check mine now!

Anyone know on second picture if something should be connected on the spade from the starter motor?????

Nah, that's not connected/used.

yeah you can see it through the manifold just next to the isv plug.

The wire they actually have going to the solenoid isn't as VW made it, looks a bit like a gash motorworld type terminal, waiting to fall off...

86c tbh the wiring loom is pike'd to fuck spade connectors all over the shop, bits of loom cut to pieces don't know why

The problems I have noticed from driving are:

Starter motor don't kick in sometimes - dodgey wiring

Gears are in the wrong place - selector?

Runs like shit - Knock sensors

Other than that can't find any others till i drive it properly

well thanks fro the help guys

Seems I have wasted a lot of my time/petrol running round just because the person who did the conversion said

there was no knock sensor mount.

well it is there so what happened to the knock sensor?

I'm sure that person will post before long

You half expect spade connectors and pikey'd looms with conversions i'm afraid, unless you know the person who did the conversion.

suppose funny when someone said it used to be mine

if it is then it wasn't like that when i had it lol

Anyone got knock sensor or wiring loom then ???

dougal i must admit, i sold that loom (previously yours) to richard north lol

it's pretty fucked up when i got it in the first place, remember that no rev counter problem you used to have....? that'll be back soon matey boy! unlucky

when i found it out of my cellar, it had a sony erricson charger and some twin and earth in it!!

:D

Sweet looks like you did a pretty good job of fixing it then i see lol

If it was in such a bad state how on earth did you manage to sell it

Like said before the one on the car i have is not the same one as i had in my green one

Well sorry could be the same one yet you seem to have pike'd it or someone you know

Oh well nevermind

to clear things up.

IT IS A G40 engine! I've seen the logbook, came from a H reg car.

Not one to point the finger here - but "no knock sensor mount" what side of the block were you looking at?

il pop and see the guy which owned it before the conversions took over and il post up the logbook picture.

KiZ

Keep this on topic now guys

Well took off manifold and all that and just to correct currie it was the knock sensor mount in the picture

Only trouble now is I have put the knock sensor on yet the connection on the loom appears to be missing

Unless I am stupid I can't see it anywhere just some cut wires which I am hoping isn't the knock senor connection.

Also I have a connection that I cannot find where it plugs in

Pic of the connector?

The knock sensor is a two pin plug with a thick back wire. It should normally connect to the main loom on the yellow galved braket, attached the RHS on the inlet manifold (Same place where the fuel rail wires, lambda wire and starter motor wire hook up).

becuase I am thick and using the process of elimination

The random connector was for the dizzy

And I found the knock sensor plug I was getting mixed up cos the TB connector was hiding

Right time to put it back together and round some bolts

Nick - Knock sensor has 3 pins not 2

2 or 3 pin i couldn't remember, but its a completely unique shaped plug compared to the others.

It's still a Junior Power Timer connector, so you can get it plugged into the CO pot or throttle body. It looks different because it's got shielded cable.

Well got it all back together and it runs

Few other problems I have noticed:

Leaking water from pipe under water pot

Connection to water pot is broken so light flashes thinking its out of water

Struggles to start - Starter motor?

Seems to idle at 2k???

Gears in wrong place/hard to select - Selector

So in general I need

A new engine loom

New Starter motor

New water pipe

Anyone got any of these?

Edited by DougyG40

Probably have the pipe and starter motor here at Notts if you don't find any more local.

is the starter G40 specific?

iirc its the same on all 1.3l models.

Loom is easy enough to repair if there are only a handfull of broken wires/connectors.

depends of the damage

Edited by RedG40

Your so unlucky with cars dougy!

Skatty has a 1.3i starter motor.
