Yeah the tunnels there otherwise the sump contents would be all over the place. But youve got the little overpressure valves set in it that would leave some sort of trace when they kicked in surely?

Over pressure valves?

Sorry but can you please explain what you mean, I dont know about anyone else but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!

something to with clit pins i think :retard:

main reason vw reroute the excess air is noise, g charged cars were stupidly noisy by vw standards anyway. the seals are made of ptfe by the way the so can handle no lube for ages the grease is just a belt n braces approace really, paranoia sets in and folk start pumping cans of lube though at unessaryly regular intervals, i use kluber grease in my chargers and only a very little ptfe spray does the job. much better than acidic, damp, dirty vented crank fumes corroding the magnesium displacer.

"Over pressure valves" - yeah I've got new ones on mine. I bought a bag of assorted holes at the same time!

i can understand why people do it now, but think i'd still rather have the pipe fitted. Can anyone help me out with one please?

Have a read of this post on PSD forum, you'll see the setup that I run, and some notes on its gains. I know that not everyone at the time agreed with this setup, but its giving me really good service life on the charger, no losses due to blanking off, no crankcase air into charger, no blow off noise(preffered), still running standard air box with no loss of boost or power right up to +7k rpm.

hmmm....velly intresting, i see that a g60 in pipe appears to bolt onto a g40 as well, never tryed this before but i'm off to experiment in a bit i think. :unibrow:

You'll need to cut the locating collar off the inside of the G60 hose, I thencovered the cut surfare with silicoset, and placed a flat surface on it to dry, thus providing a better sealing face. If you've got a ported inlet on your charger, then it may fit?

the actuall diameter of the G40 feed hose is smaller than the inlet of the charger.

hmmm....good idea, but think i'll jsut stic with the standard setup, unless i can make you are setup look a little more stock looking!

yeah cheers, the charger is ported and the pipe does very nearly fit inside ok, just a bit of triming of the casing required. i think i may get a ally g60 intake stub tho and use that with slight mods to the mounting holes.

I guess some black pipe instead of blue would achieve that??

THe funny thing is that when I first bought my car the previous owner had rebuilt the complete boost return pipe and crank case breather from copper pipes and rubber connectors, there was jubilee clips everywhere!! ha ha At the time didn't know much about what the correct set-up should be so I ran with it until I learnt a bit more, but the reallity is that it worked fine even if it did lok a bit like a victorian steam pump!! Chooo choo

lol quality piping there mate don' t bust the boiler

I took mine off due to eaton conversion, it sounds great and the catch tank which i bought for £40 does its job

when i bought my car the g charger was full of oil and a pipe from it had a rip too causing oil and sludge build up all over ic and charger this guy didnt service his charger ever i think and may be if he had the brv mod it wouldn'thave been as messy but his charger would still be in bad shape due to non servicing

OVER PRESSURE VALVES ;- EVERYTHING YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW . READ IT AND WEEP; WITH LAUGHTER!

Had G no1 for a good few years. F'ing brilliant! Needed bigger car sold G, had withdrawal symptoms. Last year bought G no2 of forum member; Not done much yet, all I need to know available on forums.talking about charger lube I mention the above valves and feel that the men in the white coats are going to turn up at the door. I lift the lid on G2 and no valves???

Bought G1 back end of 94 H reg. Couple of dings otherwise immaculate even under the bonnet. 28K and had new charger? "bit of swarf got into it"?? Didn't care, had the edge on my 1.3 Uno.(anyone blame me so-far?).

Car was ultra smooth(smoothest car I've ever driven) and every thing I wanted. Couple of weeks after purchase, I am looking at a blanked of hole to the side of the BRV return pipe where it enters the cam cover. It looks OE, it's drilled tapped and spot-faced and it reminds me of an oil drain mod from pre-history.

Called seller , got "dad". Dad is retired auto eng. lots of letters after name. "Hole is from redundant "over-pressure" system for boost return; usually vented outside but now absorbed in breather system" I know SFA about chargers and accept this. Better still, I give the charger pipework an annual clean out and the two dudey little spring loaded ball-valves set into the tunnel across the cam cover are religously removed, cleaned in de-greaser and replaced.THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY FOR PASSING SOMETHING INTO THE SYSTEM. It just never clicked . About now you'r thinking"this dick's going to say they were for adding charger lube" as per original thread.

You'd be soooo far out !

G no1 and new owner went to God's big breaker yard early in the proceedings but I traced the brother of the guy who sold me it.Strangely I wish I hadn't. "Christ is that old thing still running". "Dad" and brother had taken an interest in

........Nitrous.......After totaling a Fireblade dad had a go at the G with similar results. To regain his cred., he had lovingly rebuilt the G to something akin to blueprint before it was sold on. I believe this part because I put the charger to Jabba after 90K of service( wear negligible) and had a stage one tweek just to keep up with the ageing process. Shortly after that G no 1 , with no other mods rollered at 124hp.

So that's it , an install or part of an install for nitrous.Think I'm a dick? Don't care ; far too old to care.Am I STUPID?

Yes I probably am because I've been left with a "we woz robbed" feeling about the purchase of a car I don't now own and which was totally reliable for the eight years I owned it. If I'd been told the truth would I still have bought it?

Yeah!

Eh? What are you yabbering on about? That has to be the worst post I've ever had the dis-pleasure of reading....I still don't get your point...

Probably sound better over a pint or ten.

scotsjohn i am a little confused by your page re over pressure valves

have ran g40 for 12 years and i cannot find one

be it next to diamond shaped serial number or nr bag of assorted holes

  • Author

i think its next to the bag of assorted holes mate? Not quite sure, but its gotta be there somewhere? Or maybe, you need a long weight on a short pole to find them?
