Fiat 500 and Kia

Featured Replies

I've always disliked Fiats, but these days most cars are of a similar quality so its a close contest.

Anyway, how cool is the new Fiat 500! I think its dam cute and a tidy package :-p8-)

Its Car of the Year 2008 too.

kia's are great, my dad had/has a kia caren, relaible, cheap, lots of things come standard, nice cars.

Had a Kia Picanto as a hire car for 2 weeks once.

They are actually fun to drive.

I ragged the shit out of the one I got, Took the airbox off to give it a nice roar.

The one I got was silver almost white in colour so me and my mates had a brainwave one night and decorated it with dry wipe markers. Was such a good laugh.

But yeah I can't say I disliked it, it did feel cheap inside but it handled surprisingly well and the 1.1 engine is capable of 3 figure speeds when pushed.

I've been in a Picanto 06 model the doors seem really light and it just doesn't have that quality feeling when you shut the doors it just sounds tinny like my classic mini not really what you'd expect from a modern car.

The Fiat 500 looks quality and I would love to have the Abarth version.

kias are well spec'd reliable etc but at the end of the day its a kia, thats probably their biggest downfall. the 500 on the other hand is based on the panda, so should also be a reasonably good motor, will probably hold its value better too

I suppose you get what you pay for with Kia and Hyundai. They feel cheap but then they are cheap. So i suppose we mustnt grumble hehe

There was a 'buying new cars' thread on here a bit ago and now i can say, if i had a steady job i'd buy a fiat 500.

my girlfriend has a kia pretty plastic but really good economy

Fiat 500 is so cool, so is the new advert for it 8-) anyone seen it? the tune is great :-D anyone know what it is?

A girl I work with has a 2 year old larger kia (forget what it's called), we all do stupid milages and it's holding up fine.

Fiats are alright too, just don't keep them til they're more than about 5 years old, as most of the electronics are Magnetti Marelli crap.

Don't think i'd spend a few thousand on either though.

the new advert is class :D

I did the launch for the Fiat 500 in Italy last year, so I was one of the first people in the world to drive one. They're really nice too, it's all very un-Fiat like plastic quality inside and the doors shut with a Germanic "thunk" which suggests it's well screwed together.

It's also stunning in the metal, really cute and very well proportioned, much much prettier than the Mini. I drove it around Turin in July and it was like driving a Ferrari or something, I've never had people hanging out of cars or taking pictures of me on their phone camera.

Compared to the Mini it's also got a bigger boot, more headroom and I prefer the interior. But the Mini is a sharper drive, probably down to its BMW breeding.

My only real criticism of the 500 was it had really light steering, even with the town mode turned off. And the 1.3 multijet diesel engine is pretty poor, completely flat under 1700rpm, the 1.4 petrol's the one to have I'd say. 100bhp too so it'll be pretty swift, and the Fiat's a good 150kg lighter than the Mini so even with the most powerful engine of the lot I can't imagine it's too heavy on the motion lotion.

The Abarth should be even better. But I think I'd still have a weak sauce 1.4 and keep it as a town car. It's cute and cheeky enough that it wouldn't have to be ballistic to be fun to drive.

Honestly, I'd have one tomorrow if I could, alongside the Polo.

fiat 500 looks wkd nice lil car

the fiat does look cool, not sure i'd have one over a mini, but then i'm not sure i'd have a mini. moden cars ain't my thing (most look gay) but thats one thing i couldn't say about the 500 imo.

so why not bitch slap some sense into your mum and make her get the fiat :D

i like the 500 buta s mr mouse says i wil stick with my olduns classic mini all the way!

I honestly am seriously considering the Abarth version of that for my next car in a couple of years. Will depend on prices though and reviews!

it actually looks pretty sweet book weight anyone? it better not be a heffalump!

i want this one

That black one looks cool. Can't help but think the rear looks like a ford ka a bit at that angle

I don't think you could get more opposite in terms of styling between Fiat and Kia!

Fiat wins hands down on styling

Kia wins on reliability (although Fiat are improving)

500 Abarth at the ring = awesome!

Sounds like a decent car .

Wouldnt catch me in one unless i had a paper bag on my head though ..

Why do all new cars look almost the same ?

It look similar to my mums new Nissan Micra Sport .

we have a kia picanto, well my mum, and its a 55 reg, its a brilliant I've just been driving it for a month or so, very economical you can get all the bits like airbags cl ew etc which is mostly standard now anyway, but they're very cheap i heard they are infact sold at a loss! they rely on you servicing it with them for 3 years or something, which we do anyway with it being a new car, they are i think, very well built, they offer a 7 year warranty with the ce'ed!
