That is true unless your car is older than a certain age.

pre 1.1.1973 or 1974 can't remember

Lol. Your mate Dave sounds rather dodgy! But... If you are sporting German Plates on the road and you get pulled. Will they give you 3 points and a fine? Or is it just a warning?

The machine the cops use for reading registration numbers

has problems reading the German Font and reads the number

5 as an S,and 0 as O or a D etc.Thats what a traffic cop told me.

Pre-72 I've always been told!

Any car with 'classic car' status therefore tax exepmt can have black and silver plates... Though they have started doing reflective plates in these colours as before they were pressed metal ones.
