This morning when i got up ready to go to work my drivers side lock would not budge atall!

I got slightly scared tried different key etc etc and thought 'oh right another fun job to do in the cold' but then i came back to it in the afternoon and it was fine! Talked to my dad and he chuckled and said it was just frozen a bit etc and i should ahve poured warm water into it! ha ha

Just wondering if anyones getting the same problems? never had it before :(

Yeah the handles on Mk2 Golfs/Mk2/3 Polos are prone to it. Wouldn't have thought it would happen on a 6n, as the handles are a completely different design.

Warm water or paint friendly de-icer is the best plan. Or, a hot key. Usually useless though.

yep i have the same problem,

Spray some wd40 in there will get rid of moisture so it cant freeze up

Yeah I got it the past couple of weeks, started taking a lighter with me to warm the blade ot the key up!

It happens :(. Rarely for me, thankfully- but i smoke so have a lighter on me at all times- tends to get it going eventually!

Hahaha used to get that all the time, so i used to put the key in my mouth on the walk from my house to the carpark, then put it in, if it didnt work then i`d keep breathing on it untill it warmed up enough to melt the frost

If your not a cheap skate you can buy this stuff by anti freeze or something, its called door lock de freezer i think, little tiny bottle with the nozzle firing upwards out the und, you put it into your lock, push on it and antifreeze firers into your lock

happened to me a couple of times, had to climb in my boot one morning haha, started putting selotape over the lock and it stopped then a guy at my work told me to just breath on it, didnt wanna look like a pleb down on my knees breathing into my door locks haha but now i know use guys do it haha ile not be the only fud about x

A deicer can with a WD40 nozzle and pipe works just as well.

I generally go with the faglighter under the key approach. Also don't underestimate trying the other door and climbing across :)

I found that if you're at home, that a quick blast with the hairdryer does the trick.

I bought this shitty little thing from poundland.

It has a small torch on it, a tyre tread depth gauge and a lock heater thing.

Its basically a bit of metal that heats up when you slide it out and you put it in your lock and defrosts it. I bought i about 3 years ago and its always done the trick for me!

Never get impatient with a 6N door handle when they freeze either (especially if the door rubber is frozen too).....they have a habit of snapping off

My mk4 olop drivers door freezes up but the passenger door dunt ! WTF. No matter where its parked or whatever way round its only the drivers door that does it which is fooking typical, normally i just open the passenger side and scramble over !

Did have an unfortunate incident tho couple of weeks back, ice on the bottom of my shoes + climbing over to the drivers seat. . . . bang i slipped and the gearstick completely mashed my manhood !!! it was so fucking painful, i wont deny there were tears streaming

Mind could of been far far far worse, could of ended up taking 1 in the poop chute so there was some conselation to it !

Lesson here lads, dont be lazy and climb over, sort the lock out instead !

Had this problem a few weeks ago when my dead battery was out being recharged but my remote central locking sees me good every other time - haven't used the key in months other than that! (And starting the car obviously :p)

Could hide it behind your wheel when you park at night? (if you mean the de icer, if you mean your key then thats a really bad idea and i take no blame for the key and the car going missing )

I remember one time in the G40 it was so cold I could only get the boot open, so I climbed all the way through the car. :biggrin:
