Featured Replies

I'm just wondering if i will have to let my insurance company know when i change my 8v bumper to a 16v one i have?

As I'm not to sure if this would be classed as a mod? if so how much extra should i be paying?

I'm sure if you have to tell them and never and had an accident your insurance is void?

hold up what do u want 2 know??

the price of the mods or the price u shall have to pay on you are insurance if you make the mods, make you are mind up????

:retard:

lol

just say it came like that. you could say it doesnt look like an aftermarket bumper.

but

depends what insurance company your with- some dont care some may charge you a rough guess around £10-£15 more a year.

I'm with Quinn Direct and when i got insured the bubbly lady said you can go ahead and put on a body kit... i was like what makes you think i wanna do that haha :retard:

so best thing to do is ask cause not all insurers have the same policies

A lot of people don't declare stuff because they think they won't crash. Which is great, but the same can't be said for say... if your sat at the traffic lights and someone rear ends you. Then your insurance will be invalid. Say if you got rear ended and ended up in a fence. Your insurance would be invalid so not only would you need to pay for the repairs to your own car you'd need to pay for the fence to.

Insurance is there for your own protection. It doesn't just cover your car. It covers a whole host of things and the more people that have invalid insurance just means the more people who do bother to insure there cars will have to pay.]

Think of it this way, if someone who was uninsured hit your car and you had to foot the bill would you be happy? I don't think so. So don't put that burden on someone else head.

Have you declared your Polo GTI gearbox to your insurance company?

That's the thing though - how far do you take it? Should I declare the fact that I'm going to fit Corrado seats into my Golf? What about the stick on vinyl sill trims?

Maybe the fact I have 16v rear lights - is that something I should declare?

Rev counter clocks?

Red piping in the bumpers?

Stripped out interior?

yeah surely you dont have to insure every little thing you put on your car? when i had someone go into me the insurance jsut wrote the car off, didnt look at it properly etc so tbh how far do you go? id insure if it was engine or exhaust but even alloys and lowering i dont think i would as i read on an insurance policy that if you dont declare yours mods the insurance will only pay outt for your standard car not with your mods added.... that was bell insurance

Not a clue on how far to go tbh..

Like would I declare something as insignificant as a debadged grill? That's technically having the badge stolen on my car and declaring it

Wheels and lowering I will declare as I know lowering affects a lot of insurance companies outlook on your car..Wheels also make the car more vulnerable to theft..

Engine mods definetly..but my car won't be recieving any because it's gash anyway

A mate of mine was insuring ALL his mods just to stay on the right side of the law but some things are stupid, the insurance don't have a clue. For example they tried to charge him extra for having 6x9s in the parcel shelf, but if he had them in the rear door cards he wouldn't get charged :?

The one that annoyed me was when I was insured third party only on my Fiat Bravo. Just to keep on the right side of the law I told them about a cheap set of alloys on the car worth £200 at most. They wanted extra for these, a grand total of......500 of my finest pounds Stirling along with the £1700 id just paid them even though in the event of an accident I get sod all back.

Anyway my point is, its just a bumper, not worth paying more for, insurance companies are dumb and if they do ask you say "I thought it was standard" :) *

*This is done at your own risk!

^^^ Yeah..I mean they can check the bumper and it's off a polo so you didn't know nothin' right :p

I'd assume they only pick up on the blatantly obvious aftermarket mods, but I don't know..OEM ftw either way

I haven't actually. Good point, I will have to do that tomorrow. Although the casing numbers on both the gearboxes are the same so unless you pull apart the gearbox your not going to notice. lol.

Everything else is declared though. Even the chequer roof, lol.

I always declare everything because its not worth risking it. With my insurance company it doesn't cost me any extra either so it would be stupid not to.

and my i ask who you are with?

I'm with quinn direct and on the phone the lady told me they dont charge extra for cosmetic modifications. I suppose not all insurers are the same, but it's worth asking before you declare anything i reckon. stuff like changing from an 8v to a 16v bumper shouldnt really make a difference, and because its still a VW part just say it came like that, they wont know any different!
