Go for a polo mate. Insurance will probably end up being the same on both the polo and the corsa after you have declared your mods. Standard Polo over modified Corsa everytime mate.

Thats one thing about Vauxhalls, the parts cost nout. You can red top of Corsa or something of the like for peanuts.

I love old Volkswagens cause when you get in them they still feel solid despite them being 15-20 years old. Older Vauxhalls and stuff feel crap in comparison, my mates mk1 Astra feel fucking awful compared to my Derby. My Derby is older as well!!

People need to pull there heads out of each others arseholes and remember that Volkswagen is the peoples car and its not something super special that makes you better than others.

If insurance for a 1.4 was 1500 when i started i wouldn't have bothered with a pissing corsa. the 1.fuck all cost me £1634 something or other extortionate cut arms off and count your kidneys kind of premium

I would personally go for maybe a Mk3 Polo GT. Cheap to buy (around 1k max for an absolute gem), cheap to tax (just under £70 for 6 months) and cheap to insure (I'm 18, no NCB £1400 - mods declared)

Plus with it being an older dub, it's light and although it's a 1.3, it's very fast (my 1.8 5 door Mk3 Golf Driver lags a bit in comparison)

Never been a fan of corsa's however (owned one as a temp car in between cars) and I would imagine the insurance to be higher on a corsa also, as they are now labelled "chav cars" and makes them more at risk of being stolen or driven out of control - this is how the insurance companies think

Also if you end up with a Polo with a smaller insurer, make sure you mention that you are a member of ClubPolo as sometimes you can save yourself money by being a member of a car club

mate, there's no point posting this up cos we all know what some people are gonna say. go test drive one and see how you feel! they're good for a first car. they're cheaper than polo's on insurance and have couple little things that polo's don't have, like you mentioned before, power steering.

Back in the day they were reliable and what not, i mean you do see a lot of old Volkswagens compared to say old Fiats. But nowadays Volkswagen are just playing on there image as a very reliable car company when in fact there not all that.

LOL at these threads. End of the day you will find a corse with decent kit for your budget no problem. For 1k i personally would buy a mk3 polo, lower it with some nice wheels, and put everything left of the total £2.5k budget on insurance and petrol money. Mint 1.3 will cost no more than £500, lowering might cost £200 all in, wheels for £100 (max) and then you have £1700 to insure it. If you do buy a mk3, dont buy a 'cl' model though, no difference from the other specs but its ins group 7!

you dont need PAS in a mk3 anyways.

I looked at corsas, clios and 106's for my first car. I couldn't find a car of the same age that had an interior that i liked as much as that in my mk3. It just feels so much better made and better organised than the other brand equivalents. This isnt VAG blinkers speaking either. My ex had a pug 205 1.4 xs, that was a pretty good car tbh, went quite well and handled well too. Shame it looked so dated! At the end fo the day see which car you prefer, and then go with it.

Currently having the floor welded back in, which is always a good start. Strut tops are all rotten, sills are gone, wings are gone, feel under the boot floor and theres nothing but rust, all around the windows is rust, outer wings have holes big enough to put your arms in, bonnet is fucked. Not in the best condition to say the least

theres nothing wrong with corsa's. my mates had his "b" since he passed his test nearly 3 years ago and its had less problems than my polo. the bonus with them is that we put a redtop lump in it and had it fully running for well under a grand and its a dead easy swap!

and if he blows it up (because there obviously as unreliable as VW people make them out to be ) it costs about £200 to get another one!

Again there has been threads like this in the past. Its not really the cars its the drivers. When you get a little chav, in his 1.2 twinport thats got an amazing induction kit that gives him an extra 60bhp or 80 if he has his foglights on, comming up to me for example in my Saxo VTR and going "fancy a race up a pass min ill total skin you". Thats Peterhead chavs btw. Just does my nut in.

The cars themselves are ok...well the B is the best IMO still pretty basic and good engines from what I can tell. The C is worse but still ok, not enough driver feedback and its the one most chavs are in now. The D though is just awful, I cant stand it, too big, too slow (unless its the VXR which is a bit overrated IMO), no feeling and ugly as sin if I'm honest.
