Right well i failed my driving test again on monday. I got 8 minors 3 for undue hesitation. At the end of the test i was told that i failed for the undue hesitation eventhough i had the sun in my eyes at one point. I wasn't too bothered thought it was harsh but accepted i failed as it happend three times. I was talking to someone on eastcoastdubs and they said that they passed with 7 minors 3 being for undue hesitation. So I'm confused how can the rules be differnt for him than they where for me. Just wondered if anyone had anyideas as its really bugging me.

Your allowed to have up to 5 minors for one thing I think it is. Might be 4 but I know you can definatly have 3 because I'm the same, when I did my resit test I got 3 minors for undue hesitation and I passed.

At the end of the day though wether you pass is totally up to the examiner. If he doesn't think you are at a high enough standard to drive by yourself thats his decision to make and it cannot be changed.

lol yeah i guess so. I've booked another test anyways it just kinda pissed me off. Being i only got 2 minors on my 1st test with the the same tester :( but o well

Some testers are just cocks though.

When I did my first resit test I only got one minor but failed because a bird flew out infront of me and I never avoided it, even though your taught not to swerve or anything to avoid things. And swerving was all I could have done so I didn't and just kept going and failed. Examiner was a complete tw*t though

Examiners r cocks sometimes yeah, on my second test i got 2 minors, both for going too slow in country lanes ( was doing 40 instead of 60 even ). He automatically changed this to a major, its upto him whether he deems it a major or a minor. It was harsh though considering it was icey so i was bound to be taking more care.

Driving instructors can be cocks for no reason, i passed my test 1st time and only got 2 minors in total but wen we got back instead of sayin congratulations he just passed me the papers after id signed them and just said that i need to work on the faults !!! I stalled it once bcoz my foot slipped off the clutch and he knew that the prick !

I just think they regret letting you on the road sometimes and want to piss us off

I swear when i took my test if you got three minors of the same sort it was a fail, as thats what happend to me in my first test, but it was a while back.

TBH, its a lottery i feel. In my second test i drove shite, but the guy was alright and made conversation all through the test. The first guy i had didnt say jack apart from giving instructions!

The thing is, whether or not your good enough to pass..they can't pass everyone. The government are trying to stop more and more new drivers passing, by making the tests harder and more expensive.

The examiners say they have no quota system but they obviously have some sort of system since they can't pass everyone..

I passed third time and one of the times I failed for not looking "properly" at a give way..Firstly I did look. Secondly there was no give way sign. Thirdly the double dashes at the 'junction' were not visible anymore. It was hardly even a junction - more of a merge with a larger street.

The other time I failed because someone came SPEEDING up my arse after pulling out into a clear street. The examiner admitted himself it was clear to go, and he would have done the same as me - yet he still failed me.

I've also had friends fail for stupid reasons that were completely out of their control..

I believe it's just whether or not the examiners passed many people that day, even if you are up to scratch with your driving.

I love how when people fail its always the examiners fault.

He does that job day in day out and probably knows it like the back of his hand where as the person doing the test has been driving for a handful of months and thinks they know best.

If you were good enough to pass and get your licence what reasoning would the examiner have to fail you?

I just don't see their reasoning for failing you sometimes..The first time I failed I wasn't even annoyed I had failed - I obviously expected it..I just don't see why the examiner said he would have done the same thing thet I had done maybe he was just trying to make me somehow feel better

Anyway, to me it seems there's a large margin for what they have hand out majors for..I've known people who had a major for driving down the wrong side of the road - deserved, yet other people who have touched the kurb and got the same score..

But even if an examiner had brilliant drivers all day, I don't see that they could pass them all - Don't the government want less cars on the road, and more importantly less young drivers? Yes I'm probably wrong but that's just my point :)

To be honest, on every other test I've taken, I'd agree with you. In my opinion, the car test is at least 25% down to how the examiner is feeling and if he had a shag last night.

When I took my first car test, I was doing a reverse round the corner. All was clear apart from a car just pulling away from the kerb at least 600 yards in the distance, in a 30.

I reversed round the corner, she made me reverse at least another 50 yards down this road (and there was me thinking uneccessary reversing is a traffic offence?). We stopped, some time passed, everyone went home, it got dark, it got light everyone went to work, and finally this car went past the end of the road and she marked the fail down. If I were the person then that I am now, I'd have told her she was taking the f***ing piss.

They do seem to be cocks, i remember my drivingt instructor going for his part 3 test (to allow him to teach pass plus) and they have to take the examiner out for a mock driving lesson. The examiner pretends to be at test standard and makes a number of errors which the instructor has to point out and correct. The examiner my instructor had took both hands off the wheel at one point, while 'in character', forcing my instructor to grab the wheel and steer the car for him.

Not only is this illegal anyway, but its against the regulations for the test, and who would take both hands off the wheel at test-standard anyway? Tosser failed him too, said it was his fault for not telling him he can't do it?

So you have to think up EVERY possible thing you're not allowed to do, and tell them they can't? "You're not allowed drive with your feet".."You can't drive with your seatbelt off"

Seriously..if he was pretending to be a student eligible for pass plus, surely he'd know you're not allowed to take both hands off the steering wheel

I know what your saying and I've exepted that i failed. But in my honest opinion i do not think that everyone that should pass pass's. I may well not have deserved to pass but what i don't get is how two people get virtually the same test marks but yet one failed and the other passed? I realise i was a bit hesitant but it wasn't majorly dangerous i just waited untill i was 100% sure it was clear. I never made anyone change direction or slam on their brakes.

I always heard it is best to book your test for a Wednesday. It was a Wednesday both times I passed and the one time I failed it was a Monday

well i failed on a monday and a saturday :s and my next test is booked for a satarday again so i will find out if its an omen lol

My Dad lost the examiner for most of his bike test (they used to do the test with the examiner on foot). The bloke still passed him - my Dad reckoned he must have gone into a shop for a packet of fags or something. He took his car test in the army which apparently consisted of driving a lorry to the end of the road and back.

in the paper a few weeks back a girl in Reading was doing her test where she was asked to perform a hill start. she got to the top of the hill put the handbrake up and it started rollin back. the cable had broken or something. so she had to keep her foot on the footbrake and the examiner left her in the car while he went of for more than 20mins to get help and the girl was left crying as she was in shock and pain from pressing the brake down so long.

surely he could of managed to get the car moving without the handbrake instead of wondering of. just shows how eveil they are

He could have at least told her to put it in 1st stop the engine and it will hold that way instead of pressing a solid brake pedal for 20 minutes.

I passed first time on a Thursday.

Don't think the attitude of my examiner mattered much TBH. There was someone in the back examining him so he had to do it by the book

ok well this may disapoint you alot, but i got 14 minors and 9 of them were for (along the lines of unduehesitation) i think i got the most in unduehesitation you can get and then others in slowing down too early and stuff like that. i was very very lucky to pass though.
