It's a rebadged Toyota Hilux.

They didn't sell very well because they cost more than the Hilux, and they're very scarce in anything but 2wd.

Taro was a rebadged Hi-Lux, although I have seen some low slung Taro's about, not the 4wd ones you may think of.

Quite rare & the plug was pulled on them pretty quickly. The joint venture was dreamt up as when the Mk1 Golf Caddy's production ended, there was still a massive demand for the model in the UK & VW were kean to try & get back into the market place, but it fell flat on it's arse.

theres nothing new with badge engineering, look at the late 1960's and early 1970's with the BMC 1300.

it was badged as a Riley, Austin, Morris Vanden Plas, Wolesley and MG and possibly one of two more.

They're not bad on fuel, my brother's 2.4 Diesel Hilux does about 35mpg, which is only about 10mpg less than my Mk2 Coupe.
