actually it is 1992 k reg. all cars from then have to have a cat if fitted from new and other than that if you take a car for mot it will fail the emmission test.

I had my J plate Polo decatted and it passed its MOT like that

You'll be fine.

Yeh you will be fine to take it off! You will only have the basic emmisions test on your car so nothing to worry about!

Find a friendly exhaust place, ask them to cut out your cat and weld in a straight section for around £10-20. Or buy StueyB's in the for sale section. VAG also stock them!

My engine is from a scrapped H-Reg car, but my shell is on an M. Technically i think it goes by the engine, but i don't know how to prove it to an MOT man! It wont matter this time round cause the cat will be removed after its mot'd but it will be a pain in the future. Is there any way to prove that its ok as the engine is earlier than the shell? Or is it just a case of being very friendly with the tester.

Skatty- I would think you could prove the difference witht the engine code and Chassie code because they wont match up. The engine code will say its an H reg where as the chassie is a M reg.

You should have declared it on the V5 (I think) which will get up dated on to big brothers data system and so should flag up.

you need to be able to prove the car the engine came out of was pre-august 1992. Can't think of any other way than having a photocopy of the logbook for that car. Don't think the engine code alone will prove anything in the eyes of the MOT tester. Also not too sure how easy this is going to be with the computerised MOTs these days.

Not really worth it either. Gives a couple of bhp on a Polo, so unless it is clogged, keep it
