CIS will insure mods - I've had a quote off them for a G40 converted Mk2 Golf.

stupid bastards. told me i cant have none

I was crashed into in my old car (clio sport) lowered, alloys, janspeed full exhaust, tinted windows, smoked lights , sound system guy from the insurance loved it he drove it to renault with back end crabbing to get fixed, guess depends on the induvidual and i suppose luck

yeah cis are good with their mods actually!

I'm with bell and have to admit if its things like wheels, suspension, exhaust etc made about 25 of difference!

personally id propably declare all obvious mods, anything that cant be seen without pulling it apart (like engine internals) i cant see them ripping the engine apart?

I ended up declaring everything to be safe but it makes you think!

Walshc i know you had an aweful crash i didnt know you were still suffering from it. Do you know whether the injuries are permanent though? Still scene points for originality with the hand controls! haha (they carbon or ripspeed chrome? haha)

It is best to always mention any mods that you have on your car even if the company does not cover them.

This way, you know if in a crash you have told the insurers about it and they have less chance of voiding the insurance by saying we knew of no mods.

But it is always up to the insurer and their specifications on your policy.

Dan.

quinn direct dont charge anything unless its an engine modification so for lowering and rims iit added nothing to my premium

to declare the fornt and rear lights & lowerd more that 60mm i paid an extra £40 with elephant.co.uk

my quote was although not on a polo but just gives you an idea

Bog standard 1982 city e mini £1200

added

Wheels

lowered

roll cage

performance exhaust

brakes

alot of exterior mods

bumped it up to £1800

But they wont pay to replace them if your car gets nabbed!

So pretty much anything you change on your car, you should declare?

For example...

My Mk4 is an 8v and now I have 16v Bumpers, so I would still declare eventhough its OEM??

What about Mk5 Rear Lights, Fog Lights... even silly standard things like that?

^^^

Yes!

I'm fully comp, pay £830 and can have any interior/exterior mods but bhp is restricted to 130!

Yeah all of the above you should declare. My OEM foglights counted under 'external decorative changes' which included my debadged grill, clear indicators and side repeaters. My GT interior counted as an interior change :(

Brentacre!

awesome adrian flux dont charge for alloys :D

or headunit and speakers :D woo fully declaired up :p

I think the thing is though they add it on but they dont cover if it goes walkies.

I found HIC to be the best out of the lot, the thing with them is they give you a quote which is basically a quote without mods and then they'll insure anything and i mean anything cosmetic up to the value of £1500 absolutely free so i've definateyl found them to be the best so far, i was with more then previously i put alloys on which they were fine with then lowered it phoned em up to declare it and they waved me bye bye within minutes haha!

Out of people experience how has tesco faired up with mods? considering going with them come renewal time cos i had a quote for 650 on the 16v! at 19. are there any of these companies that do offer that if it gets robbed and you have declared alloys coillies etc they will replace the modded parts? and also do any comapnies offer a agreed value policy?

For lazy people who dont want to read:

1, Tesco and mods?

2, Companies that replace declared mods (alloys etc)

3, Agreed value policies? who does them

I am with quinn and my coilovers bumped up the insurance by £100 grr

Didn't read the whole thread, but if it hasn't been said already, HIC are very good about visual mods.

Mine is declared up, and it made no difference to the policy!

What about 17year olds? will be insuring my car as standard when i get it, but hopefully later on in the year when i've got a bit of cash i'd like coilovers, wheels and an exhaust, maybe other small things, would it change by the £45 rough estimate people have mentioned or is it more likely to be £450 because i'm 17?

Don't go with direct line if you're under 25 and want to modify your car because they wont cover you. WANK

does churchill allow mods? I'm with them and I'm 17...

my punto was my 2nd car at 18 had alloys, flushed boot, bad boy bonnet, aftermarket rear lights £500+ i.c.e system, induction kit all on a all mods decleared policy (apart from engine conversion) i could do anything at no extra charge as i payed it all up in one go before modding and i told them. that was with norwich union, now with highway and trying to declear my mods but still not called me back!!!

when I'm 19 next year i can get insured on a civic type r EK9 with striahgt throught exhaust, coilies, new alloys and induction kit for £1440 but thats only thirdt party fire and theft. the car is 185 BHP standard, so i think thats quite cheap. i might consider changing the polo for one next year, dunno :? what you lot think??
