General Parts Rant!

Featured Replies

Is it just me or has parts sales really gone downhill recently in the polo/general vw scene? :ninja:

Been breaking/selling dubs for the past 5 years and used to really enjoy doing it in my spare time, but for me its gone downhill steeply over the last few months. It is only something i do in my spare time, and hope i've helped keep a few polos on the road  I've recently had a couple of gt's that were genuine breakers (found out sills were shot to bits) but it seems that anyone with a problem with one now that can't be fixed in 5 minutes starts breaking it for spares :? Soon complete gt's will be a rare sight!

I've had some great ones recently...

  • people letting you down after you've gone to the trouble of pm'ing back 5 or 6 times to answer question after question.
  • telling me I'm charging too much for something, will i sell it to them for half price- if you don't like the price don't buy it!
  • can i put dibs on a part, then never getting in touch again
  • will i post a set of wheels out for no extra cost over my asking price

Don't get me wrong, i have made some really good mates through doing this, but theres always someone trying it on at the moment. None of this is aimed at any one person but just wanted to know if its just me this is happening to? I am seriously considering clearing out all of the spares i don't need and have parts what i need for my own projects.

:evil:Rant over

Yeah absolutley. In the past I've sold loads of things and the amount of stupid PM's you get really puts you off selling anything.

An example.... i was selling my 16v Polo and got a pm asking..' will you sell me the bumpers'..

How the hell am i going to sell a valver with no bumpers?! Duuuuurrrr.

And then theres the first dibs thing. I was selling some wheels and got a lot of interest, i sold them to someone and they paid

straight away, then i pm all the others saying thanks for the interest and one got really offensive saying he had first dibs....errr..no, actually there were 5 people who pm'd before you dickhead. First dibs my arse. haha

I noticed that breaking the Golf over the last couple of months, so many people dont get back to you, does get annoying.

Yeah,

I've never understood this idea of dibs. I don't mind holding parts for people if they leave me a small deposit as you know there serious but to me cash is always king.

The most annoying is "Ill definitely have it" then no contact and you PM them asking and they have some stupid bullshit excuse like they've ran out of money. If your even close to running out of money why the hell would you be considering buying things you don't need. How can people be so terrible with money?

Sometimes selling stuff can be a right pain in the arse. But its a part of forum culture I guess

I enjoy the selling side of the forum, most people are up front & honest, but always seems to be the people you go the extra mile for, that let you down.

Yes I need this urgently, then nothing!!!

Dibs is pants too, money talks, Simple!!

You went the extra mine for me and all you got in return was obscenities. But thats how you like it tho, dontcha honey.

dibs is bullshit. first with the cash gets it

I've pretty much stopped bothering now, got fed up with it... ill be back at some point but at minute just selling things to friends and people who happen to pop round

the internet is a shit place at times and when it comes to buying/selling things its better to deal with it face to face, gimme all types autojumble any day of the week :D

I've had the same thing. People have got arsey when you say you've sold them when I said in the beginning that the first person to give me the cash would have them. As said money talks!

Dibs is also bullshit, posts should be deleted where people have just said 'dibs' imo.

Also buyers, read the advert. People asking questions straight away that are quite clearly stated in the original advert really wind me up, can no-one read anymore?!

Oh and its BOUGHT, not brought. ;)

/\/\/\ Some of the adverts are shit anyway, Cars getting listed without a price £Offers - that is annoying, the first 5 posts are "How much roughly".

haha Exactly!

I hate first dibs. Why would a seller wait for weeks when people can pay cash the next day?

''I'll definatley have these off you'' and then 5 pm's later you find out that they'll pay ''as soon as they sell their packet of quavers for £100''.

As far as dibs goes - Money talks, bullshit walks.

I've got to admit, I'm guilty of saying I'll have something, then never going back to people, the main reason is, I've lost the thread, so if I do this just drop me a pm and I'll sort it.

Or when the seller just PM's people the price but won't just put it in thread.

Thats proper well annoying.

If you have price just fecking put it up!!

Especcially when they think that putting a cheap set of lowerring springs on makes the car worth 3x the market value.

You know what's even worse - when you pay a geordie for a lock set and never get the fuel cap :-p :-p :-p

Some things are ok though cmon, you gotta expect a bit of bartering :D

Don't ask, don't get.

But at the same time, don't ask if you don't want to hear the answer

yeah, "i'll check funds and get back to you" you know 99% of the time they won't, then you see them buying something else on another topic.

Theres a few people who have bits off me fairly regularly who are no problem at all, but forum sales are becoming a nightmare. I expect bartering to a certain extent, but when they want you to knock say £50 off something thats up for £100 straight away without coming to view etc its kind of annoying

And don't forget the "rare" parts.

So far this week, a mk2 polo eyebrow spoiler (not rare, just everyone took them off because they look crap, and a gt heck).

If anyone's interestted, I've got a really rare set of Polo steels up for sale. They take the rare 135 tyres.

I'll have to dig it out today!!

Although I'm not best pleased at the moment cause someone has been into our unit and stolen a £250 headunit and a brand new lowering kit. god knows what else.

Although I doubt they would steal a fuel cap!

Whatddya think about this then? :D
