I just calculated that my car did about 27mpg going from london to leeds but id like to get it higher. its only a 1.1 engine but i stuck to about 63mph for most of the way with no traffic

everything seems sound on the car to me but my mechanics are not fantastic. i am meeting some pikeytech memebers tomorrow so maybe we can have a look

so does anyone have tips for getting a better MPG please

General Servicing is good.

But the main things are the Lambda sensor and the sensor in the radiator.

I've just done my radiator senser and dont think i have a lamda sensor?!?!

Why the hell would you steal that engine i have heard that it doesn't run and has some sketchy SPi clocks. The info for that came from a reliable source too!! :-)

As said service it with all new jazz and change your lead shoes for some lighter footwear!!

I'm sure the Pikey Tech boys will sort you out with some decent MPG tips!!!!

59MPH was always the most efficient speed to drive at, OH the days of the fuel crisis back in the early 00's!!!

think thats everything....

oh i also i flushed the radiator

dont think there are any leaks. maybe a fiddle with the carb....isnt that your middle name, carb?

27mpg is great! i get 22mpg on average from my mk3 and i drive like a minge! onli get 200miles to a full tank and its an spi!

My Polo though gave me 40 odd mpg it was a 1.05l. I found the trick was brisk acceleration (well as brisk as a 1.0 can be) and then just stick at 60 or just below. Fuel lasted ages then haha.

I'm gonna aim for 30 mpg next week. Wish me luck lads!

i don't have a rev counter, but I'm sure i rarely go over 3.5. i need more MPG!

Your carb obviously has fallen out of tune/broken

I get 28mpg ragging around town and 40-45mpg at motorway speeds 70ish

what do you suggest then?

its winter, you're mpg will go down, wait till summer comes back and the nice warm air.

bad 35mpg and my dad considers it appauling (hes used to diesel)

no heating air con

nothing stupid on roof like furniture

40mpg plus and i dont slow that what what i used to get out of my 1.3 coupe s

I get 35MPG in town and thats with a good bit of reving/going up/down a hill. I get around 42MPG on motorway.

optima is right that the warm air helps (there has actually been some sinshine WOO) But I'm sure i can get it up to 35mpg
