I've read on here a few times that some members are also members of the IAM(institute of advanced motorists)

luckily through work they are going to put me through the test , but what isnt clear is what happens after you have been passed for a year, as the course is only valid for 1year.

how much is it to renew it? what is involved to renew? is it a full 12 week course again? a full test? or a refresher?

The course is valid for a year I think, once you pass the test that's it...you get elected as a member to the institute and you'll recieve your membership card and a certificate. Life time member unless you loose your driving liscense.

ah so by valid for 1 year it means you have 1 year to actually pass then thats it. i was thinking it needed renewing after that lol.

I was looking at doing this a while back. Deffinetly looks worth doing. Does anyone know what the course teaches?

XRP- as tav said everything is on their website take a look, doing the course could only be good thing.

Test is just like your driving test but to a much higher standard. 90 minutes long. Should cover city, rural and motorway driving if available. You'll do some running commentary. Examiner is a serving or retired traffic police officer.
