Well it was butchered due to the old box being rotten, the new pipe is made out of the leftover piece of the old one!!!!

Ok here's a small update, fitted a K&N bolt-on that I've never been able to justify spending £50 on.

Local motorman came up trumps with a blank base one for a mere tenner :)

It touches the bonnet, but that's it, less than 1mm in it! At 85mm high it should flow enough air  I also cleaned the scuttle panel with a toothbrush and a sponge. Not that anyone will notice when I blat past

i have a similar one that clears it by about an inch, much shorter. whats the timescale on this AFH business?

  • Author

Timescale is a year, graduating is my priority at the moment!

It doesn't half make a difference compared to the standard airbox...

loving the stance on it,just how i want mine to be

One of the nicest mk2's i've seen like

I remember you guys! Polo show 2007, I had the greay Mk2 with the red ATS classics, i remember you driving around the field shouting through the loud hailer, "THATS SOME SERIOUS DISH U GOT THERE MAN! GOOD WORK!" LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

Ledge!

the bumpers?

do you literally just take them off?

The colour scheme of the early 80s,i dont know why they're so rare. That first photo is priceless and your engine tuning direction really suits it too.

Ahh beige looks soo good. Is there anywhere you can get an upswept zorst from?

I've not been able to find one :|

Yea to think I almost sold it :o

I have plans for the engine, but I've lost my job so.. need to sort that first. Idea is to run either AFH on the carb/std injection OR an AEE 1.6 on the carb or most likely GT injection with a remap...

sorry to hear about the job man, glad yourv kept the mk2 though, awesome cars mk2's. I've nearly come top sell mine several times coz i wanted a mk2 golf gti. pfft to that everyone has one!

plans sound good

hehe yea way too many mk2 gtis around :p I just love how they are to drive, not the best handling car but soooo much fun!

looks like I'll definitely be heading down the injection route now, mostly due to improved fuel efficiency. the price of petrol these days calls for it I think!

Picked this up today with the keys + transponder:

DSC00077_2.jpg

List of parts needed for conversion (running AFH management):

Late Mk3 Starter Motor

Lambda Sensor (where is it meant to be? downpipe before cat?)

Mk3 Engine Mount (maybe)

In-tank Lift Pump from Mk3

In-line GT/G40 Fuel Pump

GT Fuel Lines (or will any injection lines do?) - still using standard mk2 items

Stainless Steel 4-branch (why the fuck not? :) )

Things to do:

Head Gasket + Cambelt Change

Buy/find/make an engine crane

Strip 16v loom down to bare essentials

Work out how to splice in 16v clocks :) Engine sensors will all be 16v so should work right?

Decided to make things hard for myself by splicing lots of electrics. Should manage it though, just wondering what to do about the in-tank sender for the fuel level? Could connect it up to the 16v loom and see what the clocks read. If anyone knows anything that will help please post here - still in the dark about what to do with some bits. It will become clearer once I can lift the engine up and take a good look.

Nice work dude! liking it!

I saw this thread title and thought it was my thread!

And i thought i was the only Matt with an '84 squareback :p

Keep up the good work! making me jealous ;)

talk to scodaboy on here , hes done a few awesome conversions in mk2s he also seems to be the king of custom loom spliceing

Yea apparantly you can use a Skoda Felicia 1.6 AEE wiring loom since it's separate from the lighting loom, and makes things a lot easier. I'm having major problems sourcing one at the moment though :( SO against all advice I'm going to crack on with the Mk4 loom.

The idea is to remove everything already in the Mk2 loom, and splice in the Mk2 sensors/switches where necessary.

This involves stripping the entire lighting system, which is no small task. So far I have removed the stereo wiring, central locking (most of it), electric windows, and am just getting to the lighting part now, but it's quite late and I don't want to make any mistakes. Here's a few pics of loomage:
