hey, i need to buy a new set of plates but I'm a little confused about what is legal an what isnt ? :/

I'm thinking just somit with a GB flag on the left?

Is there anythin else that is actually legal lol... like the borders? I'm a little confused by it all.

I've also seen some with the manufac logo in the background.. are they legal ?

Advise will be greatly appreciated :)

this is the official stance - nothing but TOTALLY standard is legal. you will get away with the gb flag and the border, but NOTHING else. no other borders/phrases underneath/fonts/odd spacing/backgrounds...

Borders and those blue banners are legal, backgrounds aren't.

The font must be UK and the sizes of the plates must be normal.

The plates also have to have the BSA (or something like that) number in the corner and the postcode of the place that made them.

I'm on a website atm creating what they say is a legal plate. it has the option for 3d font ? its not one those really funky 3d fonts it looks pretty standardish. so is 3d fonts legal? :/

THE BRITISH STANDARD

The British Standard sets out the physical characteristics on the number plate. This includes:

Visibility

Strength

Reflectivity

The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: -

The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)

The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)

The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)

A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions.

There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

What if you have a old style reg number, ie A000 XXX, but have the font for the new numberplates? Mine atm looks like an 03 plate, but it's an N plate

The new font regulations do not apply to pre-2001 vehicles. Therefore the pre-2001 font is also legal on those vehicles. However, if you have a car 2001 or newer, then you *must* use the BS AU 145d font.

best bet is go to halfords, all they sell is legal no.plates.

^^ and get fucking ripped off at £12.99 a plate or something. go to your local motor factors, you'll find if they are a nice place and run it as a trade counter rather than a retail counter that you'll get them for £4.99 a plate. mind you thats if they use the signam package to make them up as thats what signum state you can charge........

yeah i heard something about when you have the plates with the background, speed cameras etc cannot take your reg properly, hahaha, lets get a background plate.

same applies for the different fonts on plates.
